Jakob Korn, Break Sl,Thomas Frohlich, Cuthead on the first release of this ambitious new label from Dresden. With its foundations firmly rooted in house and open to all styles such as techno, disco and dubstep. Its a small community of friends and producers, dj’s that meet each other the old fashioned way, the local record store Fat Fenders. The first release is a true house-affair. Thomas Fröhlich’s ‘Get US’ is a mysterious and breathtaking opener with beautifully plucked strings and a summerish feel. Jacob Korn with the surprise track on this record that combines intricate soundscapes built on an uplifting groove. This guy is on a roll! On the B-Side breaks-prankster Cuthead unleashes an unusual deep house study entitled ‘Unacceptable Moustache Styles’ before the record concludes gracefully with Break SL’s late night jam ‘Low Light’. we’ve said it before… the next generation has arrived! Recommended.

The 2nd release on the new Aniara label! This is one of the deepest, most intense tracks we’ve heard in a while! Sinai Hypnosis is a lush and relaxed tracks that slowly builds and builds and just don’t push things as so many of the modern house records… this is a fresh evening breeze slowly turning into a invisible silent tornado sucking you up and dropping you on cloud 9! This is probably the closest we’ve heard anything come to Global Communications without copying their sound. The title track comes as extended and dub version. Flip side brings Mima… another kind of ballad with a dubstep/two step beat and a soothing voice, leading you gently into new territories. Recommended! (remember Aniara 001 sold out in 1 week.. and so far never got repressed despite the demand! Don’t sleep)

Part 3 in the Voyeurhythm series! Retro futuristic house tracks by Ben Sun and Monte Carlo Interchange. Ben delivers a great track that builds around a sweet Frankie Knuckles kind of bassline and sexy NY proto house percussion, topped with lush piano and vocal samples 1992 rippin old disco records style. HEAVY HITTER!!!. Flip side is a spaced out slomo cosmic house jam with a big bass line which goes between a classic 90’s C.Craig and a late 80’s Chicago house bassline… sweeet! Another cool release from these kind Australian folks!

Hi-quality minimal dub/ambient techno by Skyscaper & Ekelon. Comes on the likeable Ghost Sounds label (that always seem to be pressing less as what the demand is unfortunately… hence the zero stock on back catalogue). But lush long tracks with a foggy ambient piece on side a, and a more bright rhythmic dubby piece on the flip with beautiful strings and lush melodies. Sweeet!!

Detroit artist Jason Fine is back with a follow up to his critically acclaimed Future Thought album. The master of the introspective and personal techno sound gives us another killer release, once again transforming daily life experience into beautiful and moving deep techno and house. Jason Fine continues to play around with layered melodies and harmony mixed with raw and funky drum programming. The EP opens with the track Orange, a beautiful monotone organ based techno track, revealing hard times. Violet continues in the same vein. Blue melodies play around over minor organ chords and heavy kick drum. On the inner tracks Blue and Red Jason with confidence moves into the electro territory, still keeping emotion and atmosphere up front. Even though the concept behind this EP is the full color spectrum, the mood is all over blue.

SD Records returns, all guns blazing, with a fourtrack smasher by Mark du Mosch and it’s a small miracle these tracks are here. Noticed the scrambled spaghetti in the artwork? That’s the original recording tape, right before some serious hours of restauration. ”It was nerve-wracking, but I managed to untie the knot.” But was it worth all the effort? Hell yeah! Mark du Mosch delivers a classic EP with four very different, but ultimately essential tracks. Titletrack Bareknuckle has ”anthem” written all over it. Warm, but pumping techno with a hint of disco and a hook that is simply killing. With the raw, dark technoelectro sound of Monolulu and Mice vs Cat Mark du Mosch dives into dusty, pounding cellar soundsystems. Machine Lives takes it in true SD style to an unexpected experimental electronica level. Classic.

The West coast series continues… after the huge Hasbeens release its Sumerian Fleet with a amazing 5 track ep full of big dark wave inspired tracks. The perfect sound track for a movie such as Irreversible. Scary, haunting and dirty! Do we hear some influences of The Cure? Liaisons Dangereuses? Adult.? Front 242?, John Fox?. By far the most inspiring electro release we’ve have heard in a while with its crazy industrial drive and dirty machine funk and robotic synths. Btw check out that last track Blech Erkrankung… That track alone is worth buying this record! Big.

Over the last few years, Beppe’s name has walked out of the history books and back into nightclubs and record collections. Here Beppe collaborates with MC1 to turn in ”Counter”. The original and the adeptly named ”Electro Monster” version features here from the deft Beppe / MC1 pairing; big riffs, big synths and big drama all the way. Providing some remix action is the new mysterious act ”Radome” (yes it’s an alias but no we can’t tell you who it is). His mix adds a lazy acid slow-mo groove, analog burn and more than enough oscillators for your money. Also on remix duty is a Latin combo consisting of the most Italian of producers, Bottin, and new Mexican apprentices, Avanti. Their mix brings the track bang into 2010 with the robust and sparkling, synthesizer, dancefloor version.

Blakula is a black vampire born in Haiti, hibernated in Transylvania and defrosted in New York City. It’s 1977. After living for too long among the humans Blakula starts to enjoy life to the full, even its darkest aspects. Gradually Blakula becomes more human than normal people and starts behaving and ”feeling” like them. So Blakula posed for Robert Mapplethorpe’s camera, wrote poems with William Burroughs, shared spray cans and brushes with Jean Michel Basquiat, jammed with Miles Davis and the Velvet Underground, starred in David Lynch’s movies, danced at Studio 54 with Andy Warhol, dated Vanessa Del Rio and Joe Dallesandro, got addicted to heavy drugs and alcohol, experimented any possible erotic fantasy, partied hard, tasted the bright lights, learned the language of pimps and derelicts, lived in baroque palaces and shooting galleries, became more human than human then got crushed by the city sickness. The Blakula soundtrack was created at an undetermined period in time by Simon Maccari and Andrea Bellentani (also known as The Diaphanoids). The music is both unique and at the same time ”classic”. Musical touchstones range from funk, seventies disco, psychedelia, avant-garde, no-wave vibe, cinematic atmospheric sounds, nightclub sleazy jazz to slow-mo bluesy grooves. Every track on the album has been played by real musicians, orchestral ensembles and choirs. At Bearfunk we often step foot outside the boundaries of the normal and decry fiscal sanity. Blakula is one such step; a miniature suburban gothic funk/voodoo disco/slasher-thriller-giallo movie, soundtrack opera. Welcome Blakula’s ”Permanent Midnight”, an album that is a bitter and desperate ride through the alienated landscapes of a city’s darkness.

San Francisco artist bvdub (Brock Van Wey) is known all over the world for having realized resonant jewels of rare beauty such as ”White Clouds Drift On and On”, ”We Were The Sun”, ”To Live” and many more. He has collaborated with labels such as Millions of Moments, Echospace, Smallfish, Styrax, and Kompakt. bvdub spans different sound-sorgents of classical moulds such as piano, acoustic guitar, violin and angelic female voices, along with delicate digital soundscapes. All this is manipulated and perfectly orchestrated into six wonderful compositions in which moments of melancholy, isolation, coldness, and contemplation of life will take the listener’s soul on a journey throughout those beautiful and desolate places eternalized in the cover photo by Bjarne Riesto, with great thanks to the huge design-work by Keep Adding studio.

Another Space comes even harder, drawing on a touch of early rave and hardcore, it’s twenty ten… it just went on a journey before it got here. FunkinEven has been busy of late, remixing for Hyperdub recording artist Ikonika, Darling Farah and practicing as part of the Fatima Live Band.

TETSUO FURUDATE – WOZZECK – CD-R

Format : CD-R
Edition : 50 copies
Release date : 07 September 2010
Cat# : LH17

Special numbered edition of 50 copies in DVD metal case.
Professionally printed CD-R.
Included is a 12 pages booklet containing all the text of the performance.

Wozzeck is a live performance project by actors play with experimental sounds of Tetsuo’s improvisation. It was performed 23rd of November 2003 in Berlin at Podewill contemporary art center.
Actors are Max Urlacher as Wozzeck and Sigrid Maria Shnuckel as Marie, both important actors on TV and movies mainly in Germany. They are also developing into other fiels of the arts.
Tetsuo based his work on the text of Alban Berg’s opera. It means he did not use the original text of Georg Buchner , he selected only the monolog and dialog parts of Wozzeck with Marie from Berg’s opera.
Tetsuo did not care about the sound of Berg’s, Tetsuo’s sounds are close to noise and industrial with very lyric voice of actors.
This is a live recording, which is the only one documentation of this one night performance. We have no documentation photos nor video on it, since Tetsuo did not want to use any light for this stage.
Only few of the audience – who have good eyesight – could see the super performance on the stage.

Cyclic Law Newsletter – September 2010

New Release – Available September 15 – Pre-Order Now!

AUN “Black Pyramid” (29th Cycle)
Continuing on the foundations laid with the acclaimed 2009 album Motorsleep, AUN are further blurring the line where earth and space intersect with the ominous floating monolith “Black Pyramid”. Casting a new shadow, the seven tracks that make up Black Pyramid are loosely inspired by the worlds created by visionary french artist Enki Bilal. While still dealing in dark matter, the twisted guitar and electronics mutations find the duo at their most melodic, luminous and accessible yet, but in the world of AUN there is always a very fine line between light and darkness. AUN’s singular psychedelic ambient drones laid on Black Pyramid definitely marks this release as some of their best work yet, and this says a lot about the power of this new album given their prolific and highly praised discography.

SUB LUNA “Awake!” CD (1st Eclipse)
Sub Luna is a Swedish duo formed by Mikael Lindblom (also a live collaborator for Karjalan Sissit) and Fredrik Sooberg. After four years of silence they return with their new album Awake! Their sound has definitely been refined and expands the framework established with their previous album, the double CD “”In The Shade of time”. On this second album Sub Luna are merging the more traditional elements of the dark folk genre with influences from the world of pop and rock and thus avoid falling into trappings of the genre. Awake! Also symbolically marks the ending of one era and the beginning of another. These are songs of love and hate, nostalgia and progression, magic and loss… songs of protest from the age of nihilism. ARCANA “The First Era” 4CD Boxset (27th Cycle)
Very few bands evoke such awe and inspiration than this Swedish act driven by the now legendary talent of Peter Bjärgö. ARCANA have been pillars and always at the forefront of the so called Neo Classical / Heavenly Voices movement with their poignant, ethereal and medieval inspired music since their very first album, Dark Age Of Reason was released in 1996 on Sweden’s Cold Meat Industry label on which they subsequently released 3 other albums, Cantar De Procella (1997) …The Last Embrace (2000) and Inner Pale Sun (2002) making ARCANA one of the most regarded and praised act on the label. Sorrowful strings, Doomsday horns and trumpets, massive percussion and snares, bells, Dulcimer all interlaced with exquisite Male and Female voices create a quite singular atmosphere of grandeur and of melancholy for times long gone… ARCANA’s music leaves hardly no one indifferent, it’s able to touch and move in ways very few acts have been able to achieve, it’s music is timeless and rediscovering these albums years later certainly proves this…now sold out for some years we are pleased to present these classic albums together in a special format.
This 4CD box set includes the first 4 albums with bonus tracks taken from various compilations and mini albums covering the early days of this unique act. The first 3 albums have also been carefully ReMastered, “Dark Age Of Reason” by Peter Bjärgö and the “Cantar De Procella” and “…The Last Embrace” albums by Frederic Arbour.
4 CDs housed in separate sleeves, 40 pages Booklet relating Arcana’s early days all packaged in a rigid cardboard box.
Limited edition of 2000 copies.

VISIONS “Summoning The Void” CD (24th Cycle)
Following in the foot steps of the acclaimed “Lapse” album released in 2005, “Summoning The Void” offers a deeper and more refined rendering of previously explored themes. This is unmistakably VISIONS, but a notch above in terms of spaciousness and musicality and there’s an even more profound spirituality transpiring from these tracks. Passages that are more solemn and austere give way to ritualized motifs where voices from the void whisper words beyond words. And then, calm drifts bearing a more aerial and streamlined quality emerge, from which shards of light cut through the massive pitch-black backdrop where a bulging red sun awaits in the distance, endlessly and slowly consuming itself. Beyond that, nothingness. Void. This is the journey where Visions wants to lead us, a world and non-world of infinite proportions, a macrocosmic voyage through the hidden and intangible vastness of all…for we are stardust…
Edition of 1000 copies in A5 foldout cardboard sleeve with embossed lettering.

OECD 134 M.B. [Maurizio Bianchi] + [Peter Andersson / Henrik Nordvargr Björkk / Erik Jarl] – S.F.A.G. / S.F.A.G. De-Composed 2xCD Digifile PTBA

Release date October 2011

ANTE-FACTS :
after the disintegrative period of my production (from “Symphony for a Genocide” to “Das Testament”),

the purchase of a misanthropic echo-machine and the consequent decay of the electric-analogue machinery,

my efforts was redirected to a pre-recording sound sublimation, so I started to re-compose the electronic metastasis of early times,

filtering through dehumanizing effects of the echo-machine, keeping attention particularly to the explanatory process of my ancestral subjectivism.
FACTS :
the modulatory shaking of S.F.A.G is the oxygenating prelude to the irradiating bionic music later developed through levigating works such as “Endometrio” and “Carcinosi”

and represents a milestone in my pre-apocalyptic production which later will culminate into the horrid of “Armaghedon”.

The exegesis of this work reflects a strong attachment to smooth and round effects of the roughness of the frantic early days,

but with a constant preference for the symbiosis between well pre-ordered sound masses and not well defined radio broadcasts,

like nebulae drifting in a space in trembling condensation.
POST-FACTS:
The interest of Gary Mundy of the British “Broken Flag” label (who later would have released the esoteric “The Plain Truth”)

gave me the incentive to make him listen to the demo tape which was of his liking so that in January 1983

he decided to publish the album as a tape with the title “SFAG 1981″ (the year relates to the link with the date of the beginning of my vinyl production).

In the early 90’s Tegal Records was releasing a non-authorised “truncated” version on CD,

but this new version of OEC maintains the integrity of the entire work and was completely digitally remastered by Peter Andersson (Raison D’être)

[Maurizio Bianchi]

The Original album is accompanied by a second CD with 3 de-compositions using extracts of the original S.F.A.G. recordings

done by 3 well knows Nordic industrial artists :
Peter Andersson [Raison D'Être]
Henrik Nordvargr Björkk [MZ.412]
Erik Jarl [IRM]

OECD 135 PETER ANDERSSON (Raison D’Etre) – Music for Film and Exhibition II CD Digipak  PTBA

Release date October 2011

Like baking a sweet cake or cooking an indian dish you need good ingredients and spices to get the right mouthfeel and the splendid flavor of your desire.
‘Music for Film and Exhibition II’ is just like that: a levelled declitre of raison d’être, a brimful tablespoon of Atomine Elektrine,

a couple of teaspoons of Necrophorus and a little bit of this and little bit of that, mixed into a perfect blend of many tastes.
Peter Andersson, well-known from projects like Raison d’être, Stratvm Terror, Necrophorus and Atomine Elektrine,

shows here broad spectrum of sonic atmospheres, like if all of his different music projects were combined into one.
From ambient-drone-textures and electronic chill-out to concrete sounds to even pure atmopsheric piano tunes.

‘Music for Film and Exhibition II’ is the sequel of ‘Music for Film and Exhibition’ (Yantra Atmospheres, 2007).
While the previous output contains collected works from different exhibition projects and movies spanning from 1999-2005,

this sequel is focused on one single project; an exhibition.
Peter Andersson has lately worked as a media producer at Swedish Air Force Museum and being involved with their new large permanent exhibiton about the Cold War.
Within this project Peter has worked with sound design and movie production in particular.
The sonic results are presented on ‘Music for Film and Exhibition II’.
Some of the tunes are used as soundtrack for exhibition movies while the main part are sonic atmospheres and soundscapes to create the ambience of the exhibition rooms.
The music is presented here as stand alone productions, displaced from its original context.
To fully experience the music in its environmental Raison d’être there is no other way but to travel to the Swedish Air Force Museum.

Until then, you may enjoy the music on its own.
The CD comes in a six panel digipak covered with beautiful Sunset painting by italian artist Christian Montagna/FLOODSart.

OECD 138 MUERAN HUMANOS – S/T CD

Release date October / November 2011

Mueran Humanos is a great new project from Argentina (from Argentum, latin for silver).
Silver kills werewolves, and sometimes vampires too, but also the material of which the knives wielded at satanic masses are forged,

echoes we say, echoes that spread across the authoritarian landscapes of Possession-era Berlin (Berlin, the city where Mueren Humanos are now living)

like ink stolen from an apocryphal sequel of the house of leaves, now set in pock-marked concrete whence mouths stretch agape frozen in a silent shout.
Mueran Humanos’ seductive dirge sounds like the missing link between La Dusseldorf and a female singing “Suicide” performing a macabre tango,

like black raven wings spreading from a shadowy corner in your messy bedroom, dark bliss palpitates alluring hidden inside a shroud of cobwebs.
A band for days of torrential rain and wind whistling malevolent against the rattling windows of the decaying Victorian manor where we dwell despondent.
A funereal march across the long empty corridors of a Berlin apartment where time and space

stretch supernatural like the shadows hiding Catherine Deneuve’s nightmares in Repulsion.
Surrealist hallucinations, cruel razorblades slide shiny eyeballs, not nice, but beautiful.
This debut album will surprise you all, don’t miss it !

3LOBED

3LOBED 085LP

CHEW, HANS: Tennessee & Other Stories… LP (3LOBED 085LP) 16.00
“For Chew, Tennessee & Other Stories… is the culmination of many paths leading out of the wilderness. Like how the waning South of old has given way to the new, his tale is a coming-of-age story starting with narrowly averted self-destruction and concluding in a painful resurrection. This theme is woven musically and thematically throughout Tennessee & Other Stories… as Chew pays homage to his southern beginnings, a lineage that includes tobacco farmers and Methodists, bluegrass musicians and evangelists, gamblers and alcoholics. Chew’s skill as a multi-instrumentalist (he takes the reigns on most of the playing on the entire album) adds tremendous intimacy to his ability to fully relay the album’s stories with a singular voice.” Gatefold sleeve.

DELTA FUNKTIONEN: Setup One: Decorum 12″ (ANN 011EP) 12.50

Setup One: Decorum is the follow-up to his cult hit “Silhouette” and explores the darker side of things — three straight techno jack tracks, and one serene ambient track, evolving in an even more personal sound.

AUM FIDELITY

AUM 062/63CD

PARKER, WILLIAM: I Plan To Stay A Believer 2CD (AUM 062/63CD) 18.00
The Inside Songs Of Curtis Mayfield. “Bassist/composer William Parker is among the most active and highly regarded musicians performing today. The Inside Songs of Curtis Mayfield is the first project in his 35-year career devoted to the music of another composer; here Parker interpolates the mighty Mayfield songbook with an equally mighty 8-piece band. Curtis Mayfield was a prophet, a preacher, a revolutionary, a humanist, and a griot. Words that all apply to William Parker himself. I Plan To Stay A Believer is the definitive document of this project, with fully exuberant performances of each piece drawn from concert recordings spanning the past decade. Included are two pieces from the group’s very first 2001 performance in Paris with a chorus of 90 children, and another pair from New York in 2008 which feature a full gospel choir. As Parker writes in the liner notes, ‘Every song written or improvised has an inside song which lives in the shadows, in-between the sounds and silences and behind the words, pulsating, waiting to be reborn as a new song.’ I Plan To Stay A Believer brings Curtis Mayfield’s positive messages of hope and fortitude in the face of potentially overwhelming odds back into the present moment where these energies remain in great need. The group features all long-standing compatriots of Parker’s: the peerless rhythm section of Parker and drummer Hamid Drake, along with elder masters Dave Burrell on piano and poet/activist Amiri Baraka. The horn section features saxophonists Sabir Mateen & Darryl Foster, and trumpeter Lewis Barnes. Deeply soulful singer Leena Conquest is equally/exquisitely featured in/on Parker’s Raining on the Moon group/Corn Meal Dance album.”

AUM 064CD

WARE, DAVID S.: Onecept CD (AUM 064CD) 13.00
“The recording and release of Onecept celebrates David S. Ware’s 50th year of singular and profound saxophone artistry; a studio session specifically arranged for same featuring Ware on three horns: saxello, stritch, tenor along with fellow musical masters William Parker on bass (stalwart fellow prophet) and Warren Smith on drums and tympani (also featured on Ware’s album Shakti). Unlike most every previous album he has made (Corridors & Parallels being another exception), there was no rehearsal for this session; the songs/streams were created fully in the moment of creation, trusting in collective skill to manifest the majesty. Onecept is an impeccable entry in the oeuvre of his recorded works. Ware on the title: ‘The main concept of this record is Onecept: I’m playing three instruments on here, but there’s one direction on the whole album. This album is one consciousness, but in that one consciousness, there are different streams. Can the listener attune their ear fine enough to distinguish those subtle differences?’”

BLACKEST RAINBOW RECORDS (UK)

BRR 188LP

MOON UNIT: Hell Horse And Heady Stratus LP (BRR 188LP) 19.00
“Where to start? Upon hearing this new LP from Moon Unit it is immediately apparent that this Glaswegian trio stand apart from a lot of the psyche out new boys on the block. Perhaps because they feature Nackt Insecten himself, Ruaraidh Sanachan, Andreas Jonsson of Lanterns, and Peter Kelly. When I first heard this completed LP after a few different incarnations, I was really blown away… the previous versions that had dropped through my mailbox were really something, but this, the final version, is unreal in its sheer goodness. The five jams on this LP make up one of the best psyche out, freak out full lengths I’ve heard this year. It’s an incredible record filled with furiously wild drum explosions, keyboard zone outs, sci-fi guitar shredding, and wailing feedback. It really seems to perfectly blend some of the best sounds that have occurred in the UK over the last few years, cannot recommend highly enough. Play as loud as you can! If you were into Nacket Insecten’s Quantum Odyssey LP on Blackest Rainbow, you will love this for sure, and if you’re just into wild free music such as Vibracathedral Orchestra, grab a copy of this beast! Edition of 500, with cover design by Jake Blanchard (the man behind Menagerie). Pressed on heavyweight virgin vinyl.”

BRR 193LP

JAYCOCK, DAVID A.: Presets LP (BRR 193LP) 17.00
“Debut vinyl LP from Manchester’s David A. Jaycock (who is also a member of Big Eye Family Players), David had a 7″ on the excellent Great Pop Supplement and Presets follows on from that fine release. Presets features 12 tracks of melancholic folk almost entirely performed by David on a variety of instruments, and it’s a real step forward to darker areas than his previous releases on Great Pop Supplement, Early Winter Recordings and The Red Deer Club. The record retains some of the more haunting vocal and guitar moments from aforementioned excursions, and at times is comparable to Ben Chasny’s Six Organs of Admittance, but it has a much stranger and hard to place approach and sound, with some fantastic dark creepy tracks, blurring creaking, clunking objects with something that sounds like guitar, transformed into something far more sinister… but somehow at the same time retains a feeling that everything isn’t quite as bleak as it seems. Edition of 250 with pro printed sleeves. Pressed on virgin vinyl.”

BOMBAY CONNECTION (NETHERLANDS)

BC 302LP

SINGH, CHARANJIT: Ten Ragas To A Disco Beat 2LP (BC 302LP) 25.50
Repressed on vinyl; gatefold 2LP version. Until recently it wasn’t much more than some rumors on the web: an LP called Ten Ragas To A Disco Beat featuring acid house avant la lettre, that was recorded in 1982 in India, 5 years before the first acid house record, Acid Trax by Phuture. It was even rumored to be a prank spawned by Richard D. James (Aphex Twin). So it turns out, the record was no rumor. Only a few hundred copies of the LP were ever pressed, and only a handful seem to have survived. Moreover, the LP outdoes all expectations. Performed on the synths that would later define acid house, the Roland TB-303 and TR-808, the album sounds light years ahead of its time with its repetitive beats and hypnotic electronic melodies. Its maker, Bollywood session musician Charanjit Singh (featured on Sublime Frequencies’ Bollywood Steel Guitar compilation), set out to translate ancient Indian classical ragas to the modern synthesizer and in doing so invented house music along the way. The 10 tracks make a consistent listen from A to Z. Its restrained minimalism and lack of cheesiness makes it incredibly contemporary, sounding animated, fluid and unabashedly alive. Includes extended liner notes on Charanjit Singh and the context in which the album was recorded. “…a haunting, exotic prefiguration of acid’s steely futurism, a bit like Kraftwerk live at the Taj Mahal, somehow summoned from the past but envisioning the future at the same time.” — Resident Advisor

New York’s finest release a limited edition version of Invisible Light through Boysnoize Records. The single includes additional mixes by Stuart Price, Boys Noize and Siriusmo. “Invisible Light” has already become a Scissor Sisters classic with radio DJs and club DJs alike. CONSTELLATION (CANADA)

CST 067LP

SISKIYOU: Siskiyou LP+CD (CST 067LP) 23.00
180 gram LP version, featuring a limited edition silkscreened poster and a CD of the album. “Siskiyou is the new group led by former Great Lake Swimmers member Colin Huebert in collaboration with Erik Arnesen (who still plays with the Swimmers) and musician/filmmaker Karolyn Keir. The group is based in Vancouver, Canada where Huebert has recently settled after a stint working on an organic farm following his departure from the Swimmers. This is their eponymous debut album. Colin sent us a first collection of songs in early 2010 just as the bitterest months of Montreal winter were setting in. Working like glowing embers on us all season long, gaining warmth and radiance with every listen, the humble intimacy and composure of these recordings steadily drew us into the deeper tension between economy and epiphany humming at the core of the tunes. Emotionally direct, marked by an underlying darkness and doubt about relationships (to each other, to the environment, to mortality) without overreaching lyrically or musically, and without overriding the quiet exuberance embedded in every melody – the songs compel.”

CST 068LP

CHENAUX, ERIC: Warm Weather With Ryan Driver LP+CD (CST 068LP) 23.00
180 gram LP version with limited edition poster and CD. “Eric Chenaux is one of Toronto’s most prolific and respected musical iconoclasts, an experimental guitar virtuoso with over two decades of dedicated and diverse service to an artistic community that encompasses postpunk, lo-fi, folk, multi-media composition and performance (chiefly in collaboration with modern dance) and free and improvised music. Warm Weather With Ryan Driver is Eric’s third album for Constellation, which has been the conduit for his primary song-oriented solo work since 2006. Building on his fruitful collaboration with piano/synth/melodica player Ryan Driver – whose key role on the new album is signaled by his inclusion in its very title – the new record is without doubt Chenaux’s most accomplished and focused work of forward-looking, contemporary balladry.”

DELMORE RECORDINGS

DEL 022LP

RILEY: Grandma’s Roadhouse LP (DEL 022LP) 20.00
LP version. Includes sticker and insert with photographs and extensive notes. “In 1970, Gary Stewart, future King Of The Honky-Tonks, was five years from his first #1 record, ‘She’s Acting Single, I’m Drinking Doubles,’ and living in a beat-up trailer near Franklin, TN. Gary and Bill Eldridge, were getting their songs cut by Stonewall Jackson, Hank Snow, Cal Smith, etc. and Gary was recording unsuccessful singles. The wild abandon of Gary’s stratospheric tenor co-mingling with Riley’s sandpaper vocals, spot on group harmonies, psychedelic guitars mixing with southern slide, melodic bass lines, and driving drums, formed a hazy sort of perfection. Further details about the late-night sessions remain as elusive as the album itself, but what is certain, is that a sound emerged that was not yet in Nashville and Nashville didn’t want it. Trickles of ‘country-rock’ were seeping out of various corners of the US, but what these fools had stumbled across was pure ‘headneck’ genius. In 1971, Riley pressed up 500 copies to sell at gigs back in Michigan until a ‘real’ record deal came through. But within a year, the band splintered, with Riley and the two Jim’s going their separate ways and Gary going on to gigs with Nat Stuckey and then Charlie Pride, before his breakthrough. One song from the album did eventually see daylight, when in 1976, Gary re-recorded Easy People style for his second RCA album, Steppin’ Out. But the rest have remained unheard….until now.”

DELSIN (NETHERLANDS)

DSR 082EP

CONFORCE: Grace EP 12″ (DSR 082EP) 12.50
Delsin is proud to present a first EP by Boris Bunnik aka Conforce. Like fellow Dutch techno talent Delta Funktionen, Conforce is also from the northern parts of The Netherlands. After two debut EPs on Rush Hour and releases on Curle and Modelism, he released his well-received first album on the Meanwhile label. On Delsin, he presents some slick-produced atmospheric tunes, in the style of label mates like Quince and D5.

DIAL (GERMANY)

DIAL 005LP

PANTHA DU PRINCE: Diamond Daze 2LP (DIAL 005LP) 18.00
2010 repress on vinyl, originally released 2004. Double LP version. Pantha Du Prince captures the parts of a vanishing youth on this Dial debut, Diamond Daze. In a white studio behind the railways next to sweating rock bands and speeding trains divided only by white cloths is a person dreaming in grids and fragments of images, sounds, noises and feelings. Based on a past filled with British independent music and the techno beacons of Hamburg, Franklin and Cologne, electronic music became the artist’s salvation. Far away from the pressure to play guitar, the catharsis found in the studio and the new social structures in the club made coal-dust crystallize into diamonds. Diamond Daze traces new lines, branching out and losing itself in woody landscapes and fog, leading to pleasurable places in the rising sunlight from the cave. Diamond Daze triggers romance like lightning in the hot shimmer of the night. Presence is torn apart in the lake of melancholy. Wounded textures and cryptic pop unfold their mysteries in a pumping, crystalline mobile of sound. Shivering noise-pop-drones, pulsing patterns of bass-drum-bass, filigreed clicks, bursting diamonds. In the heart, walls of guitars and the beat keep you dancing and the mind flies over roaring, snowy, enchanted mountains.

DIGIKILLER

DKR 022EP

FLEMMING/MIKEY JARRETT, DIZZY: Resurrection/Starvation 12″ (DKR 022EP) 11.00
“‘Starvation’ by Mikey Jarrett, a deejay plea to help the troubled Africans. Each cut is followed by a wicked dub version in a raw drum & bass style. In addition, there is the infamous ‘Resurrection’ by the late great horns man Dizzy Flemming! This killer roots instrumental was produced by Mikey Jarrett and his friend Lloydie Prince in the early ’80s, and saw only limited release in NYC as a 12″ on the one-away Man Dingo label, but became known as a sound system favorite in the UK.”

DKR 023EP

THRILLER/WAYNE JARRETT: Too Much Racket/Nice And Easy 12″ (DKR 023EP) 11.00
“More boomshots from the vaults of Mikey ‘Karat’ Jarrett! Best known as the riddim to Scion Success’ tune ‘Young Africans’, this killer riddim was built and voiced at Channel 1 in the early 1980s, while Mikey was on a visit to Kingston. Upon returning to NYC, ‘Young Africans’ was released on 12″ disco, but the other three vocal cuts and a different dub version remained unreleased until now, over 25 years later! The reality tune ‘Too Much Racket’ by a young Thriller, a heavy slice of lovers in the form of ‘Nice and Easy’ by Wayne Jarrett.”

DISCHORD

DIS 010LP

MINOR THREAT: Out Of Step LP (DIS 010LP) 10.00
Originally released in 1983. Includes poster insert. “This 12″ EP (on 45 rpm black vinyl) was recut from the Silver Sonya re-masters in November 2008 at Chicago Mastering Service, features an album sleeve redesign from the original artwork, and comes with a free MP3 download of the album.”

Having honed his talents on records for Mobilee, Highgrade, Micro-Fibres (his former label) and more, Marc uses this first release as an occasion to show what he’s got: tight, percussive, spirited music that dives deep, without ever losing techno’s innovative lines and motorik intensity.

His productions have already seen releases on Wir, Big City Beats, Suara and International Freakshow and have been licensed by Sven Väth for his season 8 Cocoon compilation. Today’s Diynamic EP sees him serve up a tasty platter of beats. Driving, powerful and wickedly funky, with beautiful Balkan elements. With Loco Dice already giving early support to “Boungaville,” this EP is set to rock the floors.

CLEO & PATRA: On The Nile EP 12″ (TAIN 004EP) 12.00
Cleo & Patra are proud to sacrifice a 12″ to the Egyptian queen and goddess of the Nile. An ode to Ancient Egypt, you’ll hear it all. Downtempo boogie magnitude and affection with “Pharaoh Love,” the full bloom disco-house adventure of “Marcus Antonius On The Run” (who should have better taken Cleo & Patra’s advice) and finally, the Pyramid-high-killer-party-time A-side that even teaches The Bangles a thing or two.

SOLAN: Na Sun Due EP 12″ (EINMAL 057EP) 12.00
When studio producer Stefan Klauck and DJ Denis Reinhardt met in 2007, it was an ideal combination of different experiences: the one who has produced various music styles from downbeat to electro, the other a dedicated follower of house who never wanted to hide his knack for soul and disco. Their collaborative project SOLAN embraces the qualities of newer deep house productions and classical house music that is reminiscent of a traditional U.S. sound. Includes a remix by NTFO.

EREMITE

MTE 053LP

ABRAMS, JOSHUA: Natural Information LP (MTE 053LP) 26.00
“Bassist & composer Joshua Abrams has been in the thick of Chicago’s vibrant music scene for fifteen years, playing & recording as leader & sideman in projects across the genres. He co-founded the ‘back porch minimalist’ band Town & Country (Thrill Jockey/Box Media), & with Matana Roberts & Chad Taylor, the trio Sticks & Stones (Thrill Jockey/482 Music). He has released four records under his own name as well as two under the moniker Reminder that navigate the realms of jazz & improvisation, electro-acoustic composition, beatmaking, minimalism and field recordings (Eremite/Delmark/Eastern Developments/Lucky Kitchen). Natural Information, Abrams’ 1st record for Eremite, is another fascinating entry in a solo discography of recordings that gather aesthetic input from all over the map into vivid personal statements. At the heart of Natural Information is the guimbri, a three-stringed animal hide bass traditionally used by the Gnawa of North Africa in healing ceremonies. Combining solo, trio & quartet formats with adroit use of sampling techniques, Abrams creates intricate psychedelic environments that join the hypnotic, trance-like character of Gnawa guimbri music to more contemporary musics & methodologies. Brown Rice-era Don Cherry, Sandy Bull’s ‘Blend’ recordings & Can’s ‘Magic’ albums are super-heavy but in this case earned & appropriate points of historical reference. Mastered by Mike King of Reel Recordings, pressed on premium HQ-180 gram vinyl by RTI & presented in a heavyweight Stoughton ‘laserdisc’ sleeve in an edition of 550 copies. Vinyl only!”

FLASHBACK (UK)

FB 1001LP

GERMAN OAK: German Oak LP (FB 1001LP) 22.00
180 gram LP version. During the summer of 1972, best remembered for the bloodshed of the Munich Olympics, the 5-man Düsseldorf instrumental group German Oak entered the Luftschutzbunker (Air Raid Shelter) studio to record their first, eponymous album. The purpose of recording in a bunker was to recreate the feelings experienced by German soldiers during the Allied invasion of 1944. The strange acoustic conditions in the bunker made the music, which was a series of long, spacious guitar jams, sound distant and filled with echo. Originally released on the Bunker label, this is a strange and unusual album..

Four CDs trace Sandy’s complete career, with many rare and previously-unreleased songs including “Silver Threads and Golden Needles”; previously-unknown outtake from Fotheringay, “Losing Game”; previously-unreleased duet with Jess Roden, “She Moved Through The Fair” live in Los Angeles; a duet with Dave Swarbrick; alternate takes and early demo versions. The fifth CD bonus disc contains rare demos and live tracks, solo and with Fairport Convention (only included with the first pressing). 56-page full-color booklet containing a foreword by Richard Thompson, a biographical essay by Jim Irvin (MOJO), a coda by Dick Gaughan, many rare and previously-unpublished photographs, drawings, and lyrics from Sandy’s original notebooks. FONAL (FINLAND)

FR 072LP

ISLAJA: Keraaminen Pää LP (FR 072LP) 17.00
LP version. Islaja is the recording alias of Merja Kokkonen, a musician and visual artist from Helsinki, currently based in Berlin. A regular contributor to the more psych/folk and improv-oriented Kemialliset Ystävät and Avarus, Islaja’s recordings are by contrast almost entirely self-contained, reflecting the more personal nature of her music, and a natural affinity towards an independent/DIY aesthetic. Her fourth album for Fonal, Keraaminen Pää (trans. “Ceramic Head”) contains many shades of black. It also bears witness to a shift in perception and execution; yet the thread that weaves its way through all Islaja’s work remains resolute, visible and intact. If Islaja’s previous albums for Fonal appear to exhibit a more overtly pastoral nature, this in part feels coincidental, or secondary to something much larger and more difficult to define. From the earliest Islaja recordings, Merja has made the simplest of instrumentation work to her own ends, displaying a disquieting combination of innocence and fearlessness, and a seemingly innate ability to transcend the confines of a genre. It is the same singular approach and vision that informs Keraaminen Pää — born largely of whatever instruments were on hand; if the sound has shifted into more electronic terrain, it remains as immersive and subtly evocative as ever. When sketching out the dimensions of Keraaminen Pää, Islaja was clear about one thing: the album should have a soul within, preferably silky thin and translucent, like a jellyfish swimming around in the ocean. During the recording process, however, Keraaminen Pää turned into a heavy, robot-molded disc of clay. It spins, shines, pops and crackles, all the while escaping definition. This is also is the first Islaja album to feature English translations of Merja’s lyrics. The songs on Keraaminen Pää were written, composed, and recorded on three continents over a period of three years, with Islaja performing, recording and mixing the majority of the album herself. The recordings may recall the waves crashing on the Bight of Benin, the frogs croaking on Lantau Island, the starry sky above Roihuvuori, Helsinki, or maybe a one-euro pizza in Berlin. Less fractured and more fleshed out than previous Islaja recordings, the songs still careen recklessly, pulsing and shifting with a life of their own.

FRISVOLD & LINDBAEK: Bozak 12″ (FP 027EP) 12.00
One of the master teachers of the Norwegian house and disco Rune Lindbaek — who put Oslo on the house map as part of the Those Norwegians — joins forces with Kare Frisvold for a potent, acoustic hallucinogenic called “Bozak,” brewed with the shared knowledge of mad sound scientists like Walter Gibbons and Lee Scratch Perry.” Spøk & Spenning” is another strange mixture of cinematic melodies, and comes with a stripped-down version by Prins Thomas.

LOIN BROTHERS: Garden Of Vargulf 12″ (FCL 044EP) 12.00
The Loin Brothers are Long John Saliva and DJ Silvio, two dashing farmers raised on strobe lighting, fuzz guitars and pork spare ribs. “Garden Of Vargulf” takes off with a thumping bass guitar, orchestral string leads, a desert wolf howl and a REAL guitar solo. The “Acid Re-Rub” stretches out into Burning Man territory with a squelched-out 303 and grand pianos. Tornado Wallace (aka Lewi Day) brings out his signature filtered funk and compressed drums. Another remix by Woolfy vs. Projections.

HOTOTOGISU: Floating Japanese Oof! Gardens Of The 21st Century 2CD (IMPREC 307CD) 15.00
“Floating Japanese Oof! Gardens Of The 21st Century was originally released on the De Stijl label in 2005, spread out over 3 LPs in hand glued packaging featuring colorful prints of Matthew Bower’s compelling artwork. To date, this remains a singular release in the Hototogisu discography. The original press info from the always interesting De Stijl label says it all: ‘The Hototogisu is one of several pieces of Japanese cuckoo. Since the song of the Hototogisu traditionally signaled the arrival of Japanese summer, it was as eagerly awaited as the trimming of La Monte Young’s nose hairs. The text of this piece likens the long-awaited first notes of the bird to the arrival of ones lover. The compositions on Floating Gardens are mainly narrative in style and more dramatic in character than Anthony Moore’s drooping bamboo shaft. However, also contained are light and lyrical pieces which will touch the sentiments of the people of this time as deeply as Terry Riley’s toes are dug in the sand. The package is impressive! A kaleidoscope of color as flamboyant/indulgent as Charlemagne Palestine’s brandy-sogged teddy bears and when Floating Gardens meets your gaze, you’ll be as bug-eyed as Phil Glass.’”

IMPREC 308CD

CLUSTER & FARNBAUER: Live In Vienna 1980 2CD (IMPREC 308CD) 15.00
“Live In Vienna is the eighth full-length album by German electronic music outfit Cluster and their first and only album with Joshi Farnbauer. It is the first of three live albums recorded by Cluster. Until now Cluster & Farnbauer had never been reissued on compact disc. On June 12, 1980 Cluster performed at the Wiener Festwochen Alternativ with Farnbauer. The performance was recorded and released as a limited edition cassette on the British York House Records (YHR) label. It was reissued in Germany on the Transmitter label of ‘Grüne Kraft’ owner Werner Pieper. The style of the music is highly experimental and discordant and very reminiscent of Moebius and Rodelius’ early work with Conrad Schnitzler in Kluster, albeit with updated electronic instrumentation. Live In Vienna was the only Cluster release never reissued on CD. This reissue includes archival material as well as newly mastered audio and new artwork created by Cluster member Dieter Moebius.”

HAZEL, EDDIE: Jams From The Heart LP (JDC 3452LP) 15.00
Originally issued on CD in 1994, this is a collection of previously unreleased material from 1975 recorded in the studio during the sessions leading up to the release of 1977’s classic Game, Dames And Guitar Thangs. Joined by Buddy Miles on drums, legendary Funkadelic guitarist Eddie Hazel “opens his heart and just lets the music flow,” notably cutting loose on extended 10+ minute jams like “Lampoc Boogie” and “From The Bottom Of My Soul.” “Overnight something happened. I started stretching out, grabbing new ideas. Suddenly I was capable of soloing in ways I’d only dreamed before. It was unbelievable what that guitar did to me. It gave me such a vision. It talked back to me. I could feel it, just like I feel my heart pulse.” — Eddie Hazel

KNEE DEEP RECORDINGS (GERMANY)

KDR 022EP

LOVEBIRDS: Best Before 2008 EP 12″ (KDR 022EP) 12.00
Lovebirds presents some forgotten beauties on Best Before 2008. “Pad Me” is an anthemic deep house hymn, based on some nice 808 hi-hat and percussion sounds, and of course, as the name indicates, PADS. “Housemusic (This Is My),” the oldest track of these three, is straight, building, deep and energetic. On “Tansverb,” the drums are slightly nuskool-ish — striking chord stabs and killer bass lines make this one a real weapon on the dancefloor.

KOMPAKT (GERMANY)

KOM 215EP

AGUAYO, MATIAS: Menta Latte Remixe 12″ (KOM 215EP) 12.00
“Menta Latte” from Matias Aguayo’s acclaimed full length Ay Ay Ay (KOMP 076CD/KOM 205LP) gets the remix treatment. Who else could be more perfect to do his own rendition than the maestro of Northern disco Prins Thomas — keeping the organic sensibility of the original by making it RAW. Acid flirts with bongos and wonky bass in a diatribe of immense magnitude. The results are a tremendous, gallivanting steamroller of a track.

KOM 222LP

SUPERPITCHER: Kilimanjaro 3LP+CD (KOM 222LP) 22.00
3LP version, including a free CD version. In his near-decade history with recording and performing for Kompakt, Cologne’s Aksel Schaufler aka Superpitcher has become synonymous with the sound of the label — the emotional sway and character he creates is unrivaled amongst today’s ocean of comparisons. From James Holden to Foals, he has been cited as an influence and his remixes are cherished and have almost reached legendary status. Though it’s been six years since his debut full length Here Comes Love (KOMP 032CD), it’s clear that Superpitcher has remained fully in the picture not only as a producer but thanks to a diet of consistent, rigorous DJing. Now he returns with Kilimanjaro — a full-length that emanates his rich knowledge of music as a producer. From the moment that Cologne church bells ease us into Schaufler’s bewitching twist on dub with “Voodoo,” he sets the tone for themes that echo throughout; enchantment, pain and magic. The first single “Rabbits In A Hurry” has caused a rapturous chime of support from the club elite and proves to be more than that — unfounded disco dements itself with the sounds of the absurd in Superpitcher’s sexiest signature flow. Diehard fans will rejoice with “Friday Night” which is a return to the classic Kompakt sound that Schaufler helped build and when he teams up with Cómeme starlet Rebolledo, it’s a cosmic, hallucinogenic trip. Koelsch tequila in your glass, the ’70s, disco, sex and the finest of drugs. However which way you look at it, Superpitcher has set up an accomplished sophomore release that maintains his roots in dance music while managing to have a complete disregard for genre and adding the involvement of acoustic instrumentation and vocals — a tough integration that works over and over again on this release. Includes color insert and glossy printed inner sleeves.

KRANKY

KRANK 144LP

BODUF SONGS: This Alone Above All Else In Spite Of Everything LP (KRANK 144LP) 13.00
“The fourth Boduf Songs extended play was created using Mathew Sweet’s standard recording set up of a single microphone and a small array of instruments, but it comes with a few surprises – most notably the prominence of electric guitar, bass and stomping drums on a few tracks. All of the elements that make his previous sound creations so arresting are still present; the impeccable song structures, the minimal approach, the delicate yet dominant singing. The album opens with the naked sound of the hammers of an old upright piano striking strings, an apt metaphor for the lyrical content which is just as raw and exposed. Mathew broadens his vocal approach here, exploring range and employing some unpredictable, well-placed harmonies. This Alone Above All Else In Spite Of Everything is effectively a concept record, and makes for a dramatic journey. Mat states ‘There is a theme that runs through each song and the track order is paramount to that – it’s a hugely important part of making a record work.’ So pay attention.” Gatefold sleeve.

MADLIB MEDICINE SHOW

MMS 008CD

MADLIB: Madlib Medicine Show No. 8 – Advanced Jazz CD (MMS 008CD) 16.00
“Madlib follows High Jazz with the eighth installment in his Madlib Medicine Show, a mix of the multiple facets of jazz music: Advanced Jazz. Madlib’s been busy this year. And while his recorded output always spans the gamut, he often returns to recurrent themes, spread across the genres that serve as home base — or bases, as it were. Jazz is one such base. High Jazz, the previously released Madlib Medicine Show album, showed a marked development in Madlib’s craft: every element of jazz was encapsulated in that eighty-minute opus. What better way to follow such an album than with a companion-piece culled from the thousands of jazz albums that inspired Madlib’s first forays into the genre? The resulting mix, Advanced Jazz, is, as the title hints, a step (or three!) deeper than the Steve Kuhn and Weldon Irvine albums that he first enjoyed as he was first delving into his Yesterdays New Quintet project Angles Without Edges in 2001. Some of this music — to the untrained ear — might not seem to be ‘jazz’ at all. But rest assured — this is a jazz mix through and through, as exhilarating a ride as Madlib’s Brain Wreck Show and Flight To Brazil. It’s a celebration of this great American music and while it focuses on the past forty years, it clearly heralds every innovation — both domestic and international — of this century-old musical form.”

MASSTROPICAS

RANIL Y SU CONJUNTO TROPICAL: Ranil’s Jungle Party LP (TROPIC 004LP) 16.00
“With this release, Masstropicas begins its fascinating journey through time into 1970’s Peru. Peruvian cumbia, the heartbeat of the nation that was and is loved by millions, has been rescued and is now being lovingly introduced to North American audiences. There’s no better way to start than with the hypnotic electric guitars of the jungle, fabulously played by Ranil & his Tropical Band. The band originally hails from the Belen district of Iquitos, nestled within the heart of the Amazonian rainforest. The town is famous for being flooded for several months, transforming it into a steamy South American Venice, which undoubtedly influences its people and their music. During our journey, you’ll enjoy the different sounds of jungle music we bring to your stereo. Mix a bit of lush greenery, cool waters, surging heat, sweat, joy, and psychedelia — Ranil & his Tropical Band are the final product.”

CLEMENTI, ALDO: Works With Flutes CD (MODE 224CD) 15.00
Performed by Roberto Fabbriciani (flutes) and Alvise Vidolin (electronics). “The release of this CD in 2010 celebrates Aida Clementi’s 75th birthday. Clementi is one of the remaining living composers of the avant-garde generation, which included Berio, Nona and Maderna. This disc of Clementi’s works for flute are performed by one of his long-time collaborators, Roberto Fabbriciani. Many of these works utilize Clementi’s signature explorations of the cannon form, acoustic illusions inspired by his fascination with the optical illusions in absurd spaces created by Escher. This is the first complete CD devoted to Clementi’s compositions for flute. Fabbriciani is one of the world’s leading flutists in new music, some of these works were written for or dedicated to him. Liner notes by Gianluigi Mattietti. A virtuoso performer, Roberto Fabbriciani is a noted innovator of flute techniques through his personal research of the instrument’s sonorous possibilities. He worked closely for many years with Luigi Nono in the experimental studio of the SWF in Freiberg, blazing new and unusual sounds in music. He has collaborated with, premiered or had dedications from major composers of our time, including: Berio, Cage, Dallapiccola, Donatoni, Dallapicolla, Ferneyhough, Krenek, Kurtag, Ligeti, Messiaen, Morricone, Petrassi, Rihm, Rota, Scelsi, Sciarrino, Stockhausen, and Takemitsu.”

DONN T: Kaleidoscopic CD (MAMLP 001CD) 16.00
“Progressive. Eclectic. Avant-garde. Maverick. The soulful, futuristic dance music on songstress Donn T’s Kaleidoscopic embodies all these superlatives and more. This forward-facing singer-songwriter from the streets of Philadelphia satisfies all expectations for what a new millennium artist should be, slashing through musical genres while using modern technology to her utmost advantage. Donn T is a digital girl in a digital world, layering upbeat soul music all throughout her Kaleidoscopic debut album. No newbie to the industry, Donn T has long worked behind the scenes, i.e., songwriting on Common’s Electric Circus (‘I Am Music’); performing a cover of Radiohead’s ‘Morning Bell’ with the Randy Watson Experience (featured on Exit Music: Songs with Radio Heads); and contributing ‘Rainy Day’ to the UPN Taye Diggs vehicle Kevin Hill, in addition to five songs for the second season of Showtime’s Street Time drama. Nearly as connected as her older brother Ahmir ‘?uestlove’ Thompson of The Roots hip-hop band, Donn T has also shared stages with or supported the live shows of singers Amy Winehouse, Zap Mama, Nelly Furtado, John Legend, Les Nubians, Floetry and more. Though she nowadays also calls Los Angeles home and worked steadfastly on Kaleidoscopic with esteemed UK-based French producer DJ Simbad (Roots Manuva, Jay Electronica), Donn T brings as much Philly to her game as Santigold, Jill Scott or Jazmine Sullivan before her. The daughter of ’50s doo-wop great Lee Andrews (of Lee Andrews & the Hearts), Donn T was always supported in her musical ambitions from an early age. Kaleidoscopic ranges from funky London electronica to reconfigured Chicago deep house, from the post-disco New York vibe of the late ‘70/early ’80s to that same period’s soulful Berlin sonics.”

REDLIGHT: What You Talking About?!/MDMA 12″ (MTAREC 003EP) 9.00
“‘What You Talking About?!’ continues Redlight’s successful adventures in the unnamed airspace between rave, house, dubstep and other dancefloor sounds. The rapidly-rising producer revolves huge, widescreen synths and hands in the air rave sonics around a slow-mo, dubstep-esque beat, whilst Ms Dynamite steps up to deliver raucous ragga vocals. Prior to its rebirth with added vocals, the single started life as instrumental ‘MDMA’, featured here on the flipside. In addition to widespread support from Skream, Benga, Sub Focus and several others the track caught the attention of high-flying British production duo Chase & Status who promptly signed it to their fledgling MTA label. Redlight then sought out triple-MOBO, double-Brit and Mercury Music Prize winner Ms Dynamite to add her lyrical gunpowder, and the end result is the fiery, anthemic and speaker-shaking assault of ‘What You Talking About?!’.”

BARKER & BAUMECKER: Candyflip 12″ (OSTGUT 040EP) 12.00
Andreas Baumecker and Sam Barker are a production partnership closely founded upon their love for more experimental dance sounds. Straddling the boundaries between emotional, classically-inspired techno and heavy broken beat electronics, “Candyflip” is a wonderfully analog-sounding tribute to years in the underground. Echoes of the past resound throughout this moody epic while stark, futuristic elements urge it forward. Stepping into “The Hole,” a darker sound takes precedence, as a deep, tripping techno jam unfolds from the pair’s machines.

Hotshot house hunk Axel Boman delivers a stunning debut EP for Pampa. The title track, a collaboration with vocalist J Jonason, invites you to take part in a lazy afternoon cocktail party onboard an old sailing boat in Gothenburg’s archipelago. Ten City are mixing up the White Russians and Giorgio Moroder’s estranged Swedish grandson is peeling the shrimp. “Purple Drank” is a sleazy, sexy number that draws influences from Houston-style screw music, classic deep house and hypnotic techno.

URABE/TOSHIAKI ISHIZUKA, MASAYOSHI: Natsu No Sebone CD (PSF 194CD) 19.00
“Alto saxophone, bells – Masayoshi Urabe; percussion – Toshiaki Ishizuka. Thrilling, blood-shaking, soul-scraping and defiantly non-sexless improv set from two Japanese titans. Recorded live at the Apia club in Tokyo in December last year, this set showcases Urabe’s uniquely physical approach to improvisation — ferociously concentrated, contorted, sweating and eruptive with physical power. His lines seem to boil up from his flesh, with gurgles, gasps and rasping breath defining sparse, sonic regions in which silence itself seems to breath. Ishizuka is the perfect foil, providing subtle shade and balance around Urabe’s transformative sculpting of space. One track, 58 minutes. Comes with a booklet of evocative black and white photographs of the event by Tatsuo Suzuki. The title translates as ‘The Backbone of Summer.’”

SHIRAISHI, TAMIO: Chikatetsu – Sax Solo CD (PSF 195CD) 19.00
“Alto saxophone – Tamio Shiraishi. A set of unique site-specific live recordings from one of the true legends of the Tokyo underground, taped at a number of different subway stations in Queens, NYC. Tamio Shiraishi is one of the legends of the Japanese underground. For over thirty years he has continued to pursue an utterly unique eruptive style of performance interventions into consensus reality, ranging from visceral, guttural vocal explosions, intense synth blatter in an early Fushitsusha lineup, to his trademark dog whistle sonics on alto saxophone. In recent years he has been resident in New York, where he has performed with Sean Meehan, Alan Licht and sundry No-Necks. Site-specific field recordings, particularly in urban spaces, have been a long-term interest in Shiraishi’s work, and while he lived in Tokyo he could often been seen late at night playing with the wind on a pedestrian bridge in Shinjuku. These recent recordings from 2008 and 2009 capture Shiraishi in the NYC subway, exhaling long thin wires of aural razor-light through the tunnels, breathing in bleak, beautiful harmony with the clanks and squeals of the occasional passing subway train. Mind-blowing. Five tracks, 33 minutes.”

MIKAMI, KAN: Yakichi CD (PSF 8034CD) 19.00
“Seven tracks of twisted enka blues, from the immortal Kan Mikami, Japan’s king of the surrealist aside and situationist duckwalk. These latest seven missives from Mikami’s febrile imagination sketch out a concern with the passing of time, with the inexorable processes of aging, and the losses and gains of Japan’s modernity. Present and correct are the master’s unique sense of expanding and contracting rhythm, his trademark jaggedly beautiful riffing, and that glorious, honeyed howl of a voice. Making a special guest appearance this time round is Korean folk singer Kim Doo Soo, contributing spectral blues harp on one track. Seven tracks, 32 minutes. Booklet includes lyrics in English and Japanese.” — Alan Cummings

SHIZUKA: Owari No Nai Yume DVD (PSFDV 1004) 24.00
“Visual tribute to Shizuka, one of the most distinctive psychedelic voices in the Tokyo underground, who tragically passed away on January 31st (2010). This DVD captures the last ever performance by her group, recorded live at ShowBoat in Tokyo on December 30, 2008. As ever, the focus is upon Shizuka’s delicate, uncanny vocals and tremulous sense of timing which meld with the overwhelmingly emotive white-hot nebulae of ex-Fushitsusha axeman Maki Miura’s guitar. Together the narcotic voice and the guitar peak and churn in perfectly weightless filigreed forms of light, darkness, cosmic cold and invisible motion. At their best, the Shizuka group were one of the distinctively original voices in the Japanese psych scene. Ten tracks, 74 minutes. NTSC region-free DVD. Limited edition of 500.” — Alan Cummings

LAS NURSES: Just So Pretty LP (RCC 042LP) 13.00
“Spain’s Las Nurses creates a brand of art-punk that is oceans away from the current state American noise: rash, piercing guitars scream over an erratic, epileptic rhythm section while lead vocals yell and dance under a sheet of crunched distortion. Their darkest songs harbor a tense, rumbling low-end with pulsating, alien effects; their brightest songs are angular and feral, giving off the type of heat that is only found in the moldiest and sweatiest basements of punk. Hailed as ‘Spain’s answer to the A-Frames,’ there’s much more separating the bands than a language barrier: the energy that comes off Las Nurses is aggressive but exciting, sharp yet savage.”

VA: Re-Wired Volume 1 12″ (STUDREP 002EP) 9.00
“We are extremely proud to present the Re-Wired EP, introducing you to four exciting new producers who you will be hearing plenty more from over the coming years. Each bring their own unique flavour to this EP, making this a tantalizing taster of some of the exciting things you can expect to hear from Studio Rockers in the near future. The EP is kick-started in fine style with ‘Fire’ by Pempi ft. Jahbliss. Going straight for the jugular, Pempi reformulates classic dub foundations into a futuristic, energetic skanker. Driving on the 4×4 pulse of the kick and the skittering percussion, he weaves in an infectious horn melody before unleashing the thundering, bouncing bassline.”

SUB ROSA (BELGIUM)

SR 190CD

VA: An Anthology Of Noise & Electronic Music Volume 1 2CD (SR 190CD) 18.00
In a rare moment of synchronicity, all 6 volumes of this series have been repressed and are in stock all at once… “Sub Rosa presents part 1 of a vast anthology of noise and electronic music to be released during the next years in seven volumes. An Anthology Of Noise & Electronic Music Vol. 1 begins in the 1920s, with the Russolo Brothers, and looks at each decade in turn — Varése, Cage, Schaeffer, Xenakis, the great pioneers — and shows the first traces of a music that was necessarily revolutionary: electronic music, created from nothing (and hence to be entirely invented). Some pieces on these CDs are certainly classics, but there are others, which, though old, were distributed informally or never even released. The more contemporary pieces are, wherever possible, previously unreleased. In fact, more than the half of what we listen here is unreleased and unpublished. This 2xCD comes as a Digipak with 24 page booklet.” Artists include: Luigi & Antonio Russolo, Walter Ruttman, Pierre Schaeffer, Henri Pousseur, Gordon Mumma, Angus Maclise, Tony Conrad & John Cale, Philip Jeck, Otomo Yoshihide & Martin Tétreault, Survival Research Laboratories, Einsturzende Neubauten, Konrad Boehmer, Nam June Paik, John Cage, Sonic Youth, Edgard Varése, Iannis Xenakis, Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky That Subliminal Kid, Pauline Oliveros, Ryoji Ikeda.

SR 200CD

VA: An Anthology Of Noise & Electronic Music Volume 2 2CD (SR 200CD) 18.00

Without forgetting some free-jazz (Sun Ra) or rare stuff from Captain Beefheart, Daphne Oram, Alan R. Splet (David Lynch’s sound designer on Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Blue Velvet and Dune). Like Volume 1, this second part is an absolute must for anyone interested in the roots and history of electronic music. The 2xCD comes in a deluxe digipak with a 24 paged informative booklet.”

SR 250CD

VA: An Anthology Of Noise & Electronic Music Volume 4 2CD (SR 250CD) 18.00
2010 repress, originally released 2006. Sub Rosa presents the fourth volume of the highly-acclaimed and successful Anthology of Noise & Electronic Music series. This installment promises to be the pivoting axis in the seven volume set, with 75% rare tracks and music never before heard. In the previous three anthologies, Sub Rosa outlined the historical sites at the advent of concrete and electronic music: Pierre Schaeffer’s workshop studio (Vol. 1), the Princeton Electronic Music Center in Columbia, New York (Vol. 2), and the WDR Studio in Cologne (Vol. 3). After the pioneering work of these formative studios, their was a quick worldwide development of similar-intent facilities, popping up throughout Europe and America, but also in Brazil, Mexico and Japan — countries where there was a will to create music that was radically new. This compilation features a classic cadre of artists from all over the globe, who are true cultural instigators in the field of electronic sound experimentation. Including new creations from China, Brazil, Norway and Hungary, as well as some classic and unpublished material from legendary composers such as Ligeti and Lucier and very rare documents from Robert Wyatt and François Bayle. Like the previous three volumes, this fourth installment is an absolute must for anyone interested in the roots and history of electronic music. The 2CD comes in a deluxe digipack with an informative 40-page booklet. Featuring: Steve Reich, Gyorgy Ligeti, William Burroughs, Alvin Lucier, Olivier Messiaen, Vibracathedral Orchestra, François Bayle, Robert Wyatt, Kevin Ayers, James Whitehead, Loop Orchestra, Halim el-Balh, Jean-Claude Risset, Beatriz Ferreyra, Maja Ratkje, Laurie Spiegel 6, Stephen Vitiello, Erik M, Wang Changcun, Chlorgeschlecht, Gottfried Michael Koenig, Milan Knizak, Rallizes Denudes, Andy Hawkins, John Watermann and Jean-Marc Vivenza.

SR 270CD

VA: An Anthology Of Noise & Electronic Music Volume 5 2CD (SR 270CD) 18.00
2010 repress, originally released 2008. Sub Rosa presents the fifth volume of the highly-acclaimed and successful Anthology of Noise & Electronic Music series. This installment highlights pieces illustrating a technique (Claude Ballif’s “Points, Mouvements”), a country (“Shur, Op. 15″ by Alireza Mashayekhi), a studio (Helmut Lachenmann at the IPEM), and historic (François Bernard Mâche’s “Prélude”), and radical (“Spectrum Ripper” by Masonna/Yamazaki “Maso” Takushi) works that have ripped apart ancient definitions. All this organized with internationalism in mind and, for once, a focus on the voice — not as sung words, their traditional facet in music (from pop songs to lieder and operas), but as the word itself, recited, distorted, rendered abstract or disaggregated and screamed (the incantation so often a part of rock and noise music). Like the previous four volumes, this fifth installment is an absolute must for anyone interested in the roots and history of electronic music, with many previously unpublished, rare tracks comprising more than 2 ½ hours of music. The 2CD comes in a deluxe digipack sleeve with an extensive 54-page booklet. Other artists include: Charlemagne Palestine, Pere Ubu, Sutcliffe Jügend, Li Chin Sung aka Dickson Dee, Rogelio Sosa, Christian Galaretta, Richard Maxfield, Wolf Vostell, André Boucourechliev, Mauricio Kagel, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Raoul Hausmann, Gil Joseph Wolman, Leo Kupper, Josef Anton Riedl, Sten Hanson + Henri Chopin, Dajuin Yao, Ground Zero, Club Moral and Dub Taylor.

TAMLA

T6 319S1LP

WONDER, STEVIE: Talking Book LP (T6 319S1LP) 11.50
Gatefold exact repro reissue, originally released in 1972. Using Arp & Moog synthesizers, Stevie Wonder recorded this, his first true coming-of-age statement as a serious artist, when he was only 22-years old — what have you been doing with your life? “…an enormous artistic breakthrough with songs like ‘Superstition’ and ‘You Are The Sunshine Of My Life.’” — Rolling Stone

T7 314R1LP

WONDER, STEVIE: Music Of My Mind LP (T7 314R1LP) 11.50
Gatefold exact repro reissue. Released in 1972, this album initially lacked the commercial success of Talking Book, released later that year, but still stands as a vital document of an artist in his absolute prime. “…funky jams that show off Wonder as an instrumentalist, arranger, and producer far more than they highlight his voice, and vocal music is what sells in the record industry. One might even say that Music Of My Mind represents what Stevie Wonder the musician had always wanted to do in the studio, had he not had to deal with the stylistic and time constraints of 2-1/2 minute, mass market, R&B/Motown pop. As one travels through the tracks on the album, it is worthwhile to consider just what the package’s title means: are these songs from Wonder’s heart and soul, or literally songs from his mind — his imagination?” — James E. Perone

THRILL JOCKEY

THR 244CD

OVAL: O 2CD (THR 244CD) 17.00
“O is the first new Oval album in nearly a decade, a striking 70-track double CD and the follow up to May’s sold-out Oh EP (THR 012.44EP) by electronic pioneer Markus Popp. Popp lives and works in Berlin. He took time off after his last release in 2003 under the moniker So, wanting this new material to be a radical departure from his old concepts and methods on all levels, to essentially be a new ‘debut’ album. For O, Popp’s creative process shares nothing with his creative process for prior Oval albums. Previously, Popp focused on the creation of the programs that would process sound and effectively create the music, a process that was more theoretical in nature. For O, Popp uses an instrument that is very common, a stock PC outfitted with stock sounds and plug-ins. On the 2CD version of O, disc 1 features twenty relatively longer pieces that range from delicate, sophisticated pop to brutally torn, electro-acoustic riffing full of angular, colliding guitar sounds. All of the songs are peppered with expressive and open drumming. Disc 2 features fifty concise, highly detailed pieces that are a conscious nod to the culture of instant gratification. These tracks represent Popp’s personal challenge to create pieces within a constrained framework that addresses this aspect of music culture. Popp has even referred to these pieces as ringtones. These one-minute tracks have a melodic finesse and associative power that are unexpected under such constraints and are ripe for future sampling projects.”

THR 248CD

PREKOP, SAM: Old Punch Card CD (THR 248CD) 15.00
“Sam Prekop is known to most as the singer and songwriter of The Sea and Cake. He is a painter of some renown, a photographer and in addition he has released two solo albums of pop songs infused with his own blend of African and Brazilian guitar rhythms. Taking inspiration from early music concrete and electronic music, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Nuno Canavarro, Raymond Scott, David Behrman, and free improvisation, Old Punch Card is a beautifully noisy, jagged yet stately album of synthesizer music. The ideas and implementation of Old Punch Card (the album title alluding to the electronic, faintly mechanic origins of the music) were the result of an entirely new challenge: to do something completely different from anything else he’s ever created. To facilitate this end, Prekop implemented a series of strict guidelines for the recording of the album. No vocals, no guitar (though he slipped in this regard on one track), and no beats. CD version comes packaged in a four panel mini-LP style gatefold package with the first 1,000 copies featuring hand painted covers by Sam Prekop, each copy unique.”

TOUCHIN’ BASS (UK)

TB 040EP

214: Cascadian Nights EP 12″ (TB 040EP) 9.00
“To sit at a table with the sounds of 214 is to be served large portions of honey-buttered electro beats, side dishes of synth-line treats, and dollops of IDM-get-down. Like most musicians, Chris Roman’s path is rooted in a veritable melting pot of sounds. Some of the influences are obvious, others not so much. His Puerto Rican birthright and Miami upbringing ring apparent when he’s pumping out sci-fi roller disco sounds, but when his vibe turns to the cold dark comfort of Detroit-esque minimal mind funk, it would seem this man forgets from whence he came. But it’s not so much a lapse, as a love of diversity, a creative finesse with a variety of good tastes. 214 effortlessly blends lush Latin roots with robo-transformer trips, always maintaining a skilful balance between the nasty, the not-right, the cold, hard, and just-right, all at the same time. He’s got plenty of tricks up his proverbial record sleeve, and he’s been pulling them out for years now.”

TRAPEZ (GERMANY)

TRAPEZ 112EP

BOENIG, MICHAEL: Toris Moon 12″ (TRAPEZ 112EP) 12.00
Michael Boenig is a true product of the German techno scene, participating in the Frankfurt trance and techno of the early ’90s and constantly developing his skills behind the decks and on his own productions. “Toris Moon” possesses a new school minimalism which Pascal Feos has remixed with a stronger house feel. “Tanzviertelan” is a peak-time hymn with bold beats and restrained chords that will raise goosebumps.

TRUTH & SOUL

TSLP 011LP

FIELDS, LEE: Problems LP (TSLP 011LP) 19.00
LP version. “Truth & Soul Records is proud to announce the re-release of Lee Fields’ Problems. The sonic palette of this record reaches far and wide, ranging from the rampaging psychedelic funk of ‘Bad Trip’ to the softer introspective sounds of ‘Honey Dove’, but that’s just the beginning. The album opens up with ‘The Right Thing’, a gripping tale of love found and love lost, set to the super heavy popcorn meets afro-funk backbeat. In ‘I Don’t Know Where I’m going (But I know Where I Came From)’, he lays down a super heavy, Bobby Byrd-esque groove with Lee emoting frankly about perils people face and about finding your own way. We find our way to the title track, ‘Problems’ a meditation on many of the trials and tribulations that Lee himself has had to overcome over the years. Long out of print and highly coveted, we are happy to release the LP in a heavy paste-on jacket.”

TYPE (UK)

TYPE 079LP

MULLEN, GEOFF: Bongo Closet LP (TYPE 079LP) 18.00
Vinyl-only release, limited edition of 500 copies only. Providence, Rhode Island operative Geoff Mullen has been working beneath the popular music radar for some time now, putting his name to a number of limited cassettes, CD-Rs and vinyl albums. It is hardly surprising that in that time he has developed something of a cult following in the New England scene, with live performances (solo and together with Keith Fullerton Whitman) and his own Rare Youth label garnering him a loyal throng of rabid fans. Using the guitar, synthesizer and a selection of well-developed processes, Mullen has come up with a unique sound difficult to pigeonhole. Throughout the album, the sounds feel so effortlessly unified that one can completely forget the individual instruments themselves. It is hard to believe that the synthesizer used (the legendary Yamaha CS50) is the baby brother of the CS80, heard so distinctively piped into Deckard’s electric dreams in Blade Runner. The distant, dusty tones and pulsating rhythms bring to mind instead memories of early Popol Vuh or something altogether more defiant. As a veteran guitarist, writing Bongo Closet was Mullen’s search for different ways of playing music, and these weathered, deeply personal songs are the result. Rich with emotion and surprisingly detailed, there is the sense that the technology never informs the creative process. Mullen is using his chosen instruments without a care for what they can and can’t do — they are tools in the creation of his music, never the other way around. Bongo Closet is an intensely human listening experience. Teeming with life and breathing as it coughs and splutters, there is an unavoidable attachment felt almost instantly as a listener. This is music that drags you in and simply refuses to let go. Cut at Dubplates & Mastering.

VOID RECORDS

VOID 023LP

BOREALIS: Sons Of The Sea LP (VOID 023LP) 20.00
Reissue from 2001, briefly restocked. “Mega rare Canadian psych 72. Only a few hundred made way back when and rarer than Bent Wind! This is a legitimate 500 copy press, lavish beautiful color cover and information insert. From Paul Bradbury’s master tapes, so the sound is top notch. Cuts like the great ballad ‘In the End’ to the psychy ‘Higher’ with fuzz guitar freakouts, plus ‘The Politician’. The band even ventures into some blues rock with ‘Business’. 10 cuts in all by this great four piece band. Rated as a 4 star rarity by all of the ratings books, this is a monster whose time has come to be heard.”

WEIRD FOREST

WEIRD 055LP

AMBARCHI/FENNESZ/PIMMON/REHBERG/ROWE: Afternoon Tea 2LP (WEIRD 055LP) 29.00
“Who would have thought a relaxed sunny afternoon, newfound friendships and some spur-of-the-moment would have resulted in what’s been described as ‘one of the most compelling documents of both free improvisation and electronic’?” — All Music Guide “It’s the people involved in Afternoon Tea — originally released in 2000 on German label Ritornell and now available on vinyl for the first time with a new master, bonus tracks and newly discovered live recordings — that ensured it as more than a happy accident. The twin guitar presence of AMM’s Keith Rowe and Oren Ambarchi and kindred spirits of the laptop — Sydney’s Pimmon, Vienna’s Christian Fennesz and Peter Rehberg — made it a momentous day. With all the players coming together during the 2000 What Is Music? Festival, Afternoon Tea stands as a highpoint of the then-emerging intersection between Powerbook performance and guitar improvisation. All subtlety, nuance and detail, it is a revelation of restraint. Built on a steadying flow of burbling rhythm, the quintet slowly weave around each others’ sonics in layers to create a tonal palette immersive in its atmosphere and magnetic in its compulsion. Hindsight clearly reveals the heart of these pieces — important to note, considering they were recorded at a time when laptop performance was an alien concept to many in experimental music, suffering controversy and backlash as well as an over-abundance of pale approaches from many who took it on as novelty as opposed to serious musical pursuit. Those involved in the Afternoon Tea session left their Australian tour inspired, citing their merry time in the country eating, drinking and hanging out at the beach as well as their performances as a direct influence on their following work. Afternoon Tea remains one of the quiet and real achievers for experimental music of the past decade. Remastered in May 2009 and packaged in deluxe Stoughton gatefold jacket with artwork designed by Stephen O’Malley. Vinyl edition of the CD reissue from Black Truffle Records, includes the same bonus tracks. First time ever available on vinyl.”

“half misanthropic ritual and half sex ritual.”

ARCANA  The First Era 1996-2002 -  4CD Boxset 37 eur
very few bands evoke such awe and inspiration than this Swedish act driven by the now legendary
talent of Peter Bjärgö. ARCANA have been pillars and always at the forefront of the so called Neo Classical /
Heavenly Voices movement with their poignant, ethereal and medieval inspired music since their very first album,
Dark Age Of Reason was released in 1996 on Sweden’s Cold Meat Industry label on which they subsequently
released 3 other albums, Cantar De Procella (1997) …The Last Embrace (2000) and Inner Pale Sun (2002)
making ARCANA one of the most regarded and praised act on the label. Sorrowful strings, Doomsday
horns and trumpets, massive percussion and snares, bells, Dulcimer all interlaced with exquisite
Male and Female voices create a quite singular atmosphere of grandeur and of melancholy for
times long gone… ARCANA’s  music leaves hardly no one indifferent, it’s able to touch and move

albums years later certainly proves this…now sold out for some years we are pleased to present these

ATOMINE ELEKTRINE   Archimetrical Universe CD 12 eur
re-mixed version of “Archimetrical Universe” + bonus tracks  from extra limited CDr boxed version
of the album “Nebulous”. New edition like DIGI-CD with new design. Space is an illusion. Peter Andersson
(Raison D’etre, Stratvm Terror, Svasti-ayanam, Necrophorus) is one of the handful of finest sound
manipulators in the world. Period. Archimetrical Universe showcases Peter’s dissection of the sky,
a Caesarean section that births massive, geometrically perfect sonic diversions,  all spheres and
angles, burnished metal dreams and pristine sonic caresses that reconfigure sound into smooth
surfaces. To counterbalance the exactness of the sonic development, light rhythms emerge,
huge slabs of disrupting tones puncture, the scattered remnants of all of Peter’s projects utilized
in the creation of the music here. Everything seems to be in perpetual motion, evolving, revolving,
reinvented at the mercy of Peter’s deft hands and devious whim. The clarity of production and
meticulous restructuring of the known (space, stars, planets) with the unknown (space…stars…
planets…) only heightens the journey upon which he guides us, an alluring venture into the
cavernous realm of space.. .but not a space most of us would imagine. Whether he is sonically
scrubbing the architecture, or just mesmerizing us with another sound sculpture at the edge
of forever, Archimetrical Universe is, quite possibly, Peter’s finest release yet, which says a
lot because his sonic portfolio runneth over with intoxicating, mind-altering sound
manipulations that inspire one’s imagination with conflicting emotional responses  (sorrow,
desolation, awe, wonder) at all times. Space is an illusion…but Peter has brought it to life.

CAITHNESS  Apostasy & The Sorrowful Child CD 13 eur
ethereal compositions conductive to quiet contemplation and so emotional that the best of
Raison d Être. Side-project of Hylgaryss (Dark Sanctuary – Fr), Caithness aims, though a
selected and mechanical development, an ambient diagram and religious marked.
Caithness installs a monastic climate, dreamlike coupled to some intrispective blackness
and exposing a decorum of reclusion. Amalgams of bells, songs of monks and ambient
tablecloths. A post-apocalyptic detailed sound cinema. This dark-ambient is the sound
of an alternative remaining to find between vacuum and belief. Kaosthetik

DESIDERI I MARGINIS The Ever Green Tree CD 13 eur
Back in stock! dark  atmospheric compositions, mixed up with subtle rhythms and rich melody layers

ELEH  Location Momentum CD 13 eur
“Eleh has been an enigma since the first record under that name was released in 2006. In
numbered editions with letterpressed sleeves, usually on Important Records from the U.S.A., these
vinyl-only releases were evidentlya labour of love and attention. Further recordings have been
released on the labels Taiga and Touch, making 11 vinyl editions in all. Eleh began as long
ago as 1999 as an exploration of analog synthesis, emphasising low frequency oscillation
and resonant acoustic phenomenae.Eleh highlights the physical presence of sound as it has
been inspired by the physical world. There is also something ‘cathedral-like’ and cosmos-
inducing in the sound built. Following the recent 12” release, “Observations and Momentum”,
Eleh has chosen to release the first digital recordings on Touch – ‘Location Momentum’
is a set of five new recordings which will be made openly available on CD. “The stuff that
Eleh sets in motion from whatever electronic sound generators he/she deploys represents
a measured and methodical paring away of all that might appear superfluous, baroque
and rococo. Each of the tracks here consists of just a handful and discrete (and discreet)
but highly charged sound events that emerge, overlap, recede and reverberate at
critical frequencies over extended durations. At certain crucia l points this approach
serves as a formula for opening a portal what David Toop has referred to as the dark
void, that spectral realm magicked into being (or exposed by) the drone, in which
audio apparitions and chimeras dance through smoke and mirrors, suggesting the
existence of occult planes and dimensions, multiple other realities, worlds within worlds.”
(Tony Herrington in The Wire)”

FIRE IN THE HEAD  Confessions Of A Narcissist CD 12 eur
this marks the final full-length release by Fire In The Head ending six years of
sonic warfare with an assault of manic, self-indulgent industrial electronics.
Drawing as much influence from early punk / hardcore as from industrial /
power electronics, F/I/T/H was conceived as a cathartic outlet to explore and
ratify the delusions and social perversions resultant of psychosis and the
darker side of man’s conflicted dual nature, to fan the flames which engulf
the borders between obsession, compulsion, lust and need. The tracks
on this release were recorded in 2007-2008 and are the last of the “short,
sharp, shock” vocal tracks which Michaelabandoned in favour of “epic”
length industrial / ambient compositions. Features guest appearances
fromNick Blinko (Rudimentary Peni) and J. Randall (Agoraphobic Nosebleed),
with exclusive artwork from Blinko.

HILDUR GUDNADOTTIR  Mount A CD 13 eur
This album was originally released by 12 Tónar in 2006 under the moniker
‘Lost in Hildurness’. The first solo recording from Hildur Gudnadottir (who is
a member of the Nix Noltes band and has performed regularly with múm
and Pan Sonic). In her dreamy soundworld she plays the cello, gamba, zither,
khuur and the gamelan so this CD sounds like nothing else. This is exciting,
tranquil, and melancholic stuff and at times it makes you think of a lost place
and times gone by – and the music has the power to take you there.
Recording sessions took place both in New York and in a house in Hólar, Iceland,
specifically chosen for its good cello acoustics. It is strictly a solo album,
Hildur has attempted to “involve other people as little as I could.” Like the
cover art, it is personal and intimate. It has been called “the perfect soundtrack
to get lost in a forest at night”, but this version, remastered by Denis Blackham,
sounds fresher and better than ever. TOUCH

JARL  Vertigo Emission CD 10 eur
Vertigo Emission, the twelfth album of Erik Jarl, this Swedish genius of sound
construction, is a logical continuation of his earlier works. The composer remains
loyal to the style he propagates. Slow, very heavy and dismal sound waves grip
the listeners and take them into the colourless, uncanny and morbid world.
Like the previous ones, this album reminds a person who could earlier see the
colours but became colour blind and in order to adapt to the new situation has
to understand familiar yet irreversibly changed signs anew. The aesthetics of
Erik Jarl’s sonic decoration is like always very austere and merciless, however,
it is marked by endless charm resulting from especially sensitive and subtle
construction. The release comes in three types of exquisite digipacks. More
regular ones include the matted digipack and an embossed glossy digipack.
The more expensive digipack creates 3D space for the first time in the history
of industrial subculture. Album “Vertigo Emission” lasts for 74 min 06 s.
Lim. E 300.

JARL  Vertigo Border CD 10 eur
Vertigo Border is the thirteenth album of the Swedish electronics favourite
and the second volume of Vertigo trilogy. The magic number thirteen may
imply that the album contains anything special… However, let us leave
these considerations for the numerological masturbators. There is nothing
more special in Vertigo Border than in the earlier Erik’s albums since he
remains loyal to his credo to fuck the audience with his monotonic, depressing,
icy and colour-blind sound waves, to throw a tie onto their necks and slowly
strangle them out of this grinding, claustrophobic and cramped world. All Jarl’s
albums smack of enormous and refined weariness. This is already the
thirteenth album and this is the thirteenth tomb on your little grave, this
is the thirteenth swing of the spade with the soil onto your coffin. The coffin
sealing you off with all your squeaks of madness from the outside. The coffin
doomed to choke you out of your life. This is an existential coffin with
existential suffocation caused by unbearable, morbid and monotonous reality
embodied in the sounds of the album. This is the ice in which you are frozen
and where, beholding the inexhaustibility of the infinity, you may neither move,
nor speak or even wink. So, you are that mechanical toy paralysed by sadist
existence. Jarl is a ghost monotonously repeating this to you, so do not expect
anything hopeful from the thirteenth master’s album. Nor from the fourteenth
that is still to be composed. Nor from the fifteen either. Suffer because you
are worth it! Album lasts for 64 min. 17 sec. Limited edition 200 copies.

MALDUR ATAI   Patrols Of Paradise 10inch. 12 eur
Two long and powerful tracks of Maldur Atai provide a unique interpretation
of the political and religious insularity and power of the Muslim world, secret
currents and moods of this mechanism expanding its influence. The listeners
will discover powerful, solid ambient, political incantations of the Muslims and
strong, unsettling atmosphere in the professionally constructed tracks of this
10 inch vinyl. This captures the reflection of today’s Iran. It is mysterious
and alluring, vilified by Zionist propaganda, yet independent and unbroken.

MALDUR ATAI  Holy Grief 7inch 9 eur
This first single of Maldur Atai project is surprisingly complete although
comes out in a short format. This is a rare case among 7 inch vinyls. It
is organic. After you finish listening, you have an impression that a
longer format including more tracks would simply destroy this deep,
delicately sacral atmosphere. Speaking about style, the single could
be classified as ambient, yet while listening to it, it becomes clear
that the atmosphere generated by the single is much more than the
antiseptic, statistical classification. Compression was deliberately not
used for mastering the record. The authors recommend listening to
the single silently.

MACHINEFABRIEK  Daas CD 13 eur
Recommended! The tracks on Daas have been carefully picked to
form a provoking, haunting journey. What the tracks have in comon
is a sense of nostalgic graininess. As with the music of Philip Jeck, The
Caretaker or William Basinski, these tracks are full of degrading melodies
and dusty ambience. ‘Daas’  is the previously unreleased opening track
of the album, and feautures contributions by the great Richard Skelton.
This track was made as a reaction to the piece ‘Koploop’. ‘Flotter’, ‘Koploop’ and
‘Grom’ were previously available on small run self released 3″ CDRs. S
old out for some time now, these tracks  deserved a wider audience.
These three long tracks also seem to come from the same galaxy,
making  perfect sense when put together. ‘Onkruid’ was a track previously
released on ‘A Room Forever’, as an expensive and extremely limited 12″
boxset, now brought to a wider audience. Presented in a matt-laminate digipak. Cold Spring

MUSLIMGAUZE  Lazhareem ul Leper CD 13 eur
An attribute of a good work of art, besides craftsmanship and beauty,
are revelations of a new details with each experience. Lazhareem Ul Leper
by Muslimgauze certainly qualifies for its range of percussion instruments,
atypical electronics, skillful de-construction of ethno-traditional music. In turn,
said music is re-assembled with urban stylings with a technical deftness akin to
the way a Shao-Lin monk wields weapons. The Staalplaat crew think this among
the more unusual of Muslimgauze works, fans undoubtedly will think it
both refreshing and as striking now as when first committed to DAT. Since
1995, masters for Lazhareem Ul Leper languished in Staalplaat vaults when
it should have been put out for immediate appreciation by fans. This work
of art is now available on CD, and not a moment too soon.” Ibrahim Khider,
author of “Muslimgauze: Chasing the Shadow of Bryn Jones” Staalplaat

MUSLIMGAUZE Damascus 2xLP 22 eur
This is a compilation of archival music by Muslimgauze (like the other albums
from the staalplaat ‘archive serie’). Most of the tracks have been already
released on previous albums (Dar Es Salaam & Fedayeen), sometimes with
different durations.  Only 2 tracks are exclusive : Khan Younis (A1) & Kfar Chouba (B1).

NADJA  Ruins of Morning 10inch 12 eur
“RUINS OF MORNING shows NADJA in a very experimental & dark poetic
mood. Their contribution for the “Substantia Innominata”-series (dealing with /
drawing inspiration from the “Unknown”, “Unnameable” or “Not-Knowable”) comes
in two long parts based around one musical theme that appears again and
again (a great dark harmonic phrase moving through different levels through
this epic track), linked by very beautiful drone-sections & more noisy outbursts.
Song-orientation and a more experimental sound-art approach are thus
combined perfectly. The phantastic lyrics from Aidan Baker point in a very
poetic way to an utopian new morning where material values play no role
anymore, but a new state of sensual being is settled in an almost J.G.BALLARDian
way, when perceptions of the environment (sky, lights, sun) and the beloved
(eyes & skin) fall into one. Or is this a nocturnal boundless dream-phantasy?
The wish / fear to return to mothers womb, a state where everything is one
(one is all) again? These lyrics open up a scope of vague possible
interpretations witch match up perfectly with the impressing music; a music
that describes “The Unknown” in strong metaphors of surrealistic psychic
states of being. Experience the avantgardish drone-metal duo at their most
dark & beautiful and on their very first 10″ ! Edition of 500 copies on
GOLDen vinyl, fantastic artwork by Marcin Lojek (ibsendesign.pl).
One track in two very long parts, playtime 40+ minutes!!” DRONE/substantia

NADJA / TROUM  Dominium Visurgis CD 13 eur
This is something you could call a “dreamlike liaison”. When the Canadian “avant
metal / drone doom”-duo NADJA (who name TROUM as one of their early influences)
and the German post-industrial / experimental drone pioneers TROUM (years ago
active as MAEROR TRI who are still discovered by many drone-fans these days)
combine their exceptional styles, they form something even vaster as usually
known from them. These three long collaboration tracks were recorded as a
result of a spontaneous improvisation in April 2008 “live in the studio” near
the Weser-river in Bremen, Germany, and suck you in with their powerful &
emotional drone melancholy that works in many micro-& macrocosmic ways,
using electric & acoustic guitars, bass, accordeon, drum-machine & voice. TRANSGREDIENT

OREN AMBARCHI  Intermission 2000-2008 CD 13 eur
On recent releases such as Grapes From The Estate and In The Pendulum’s
Embrace Ambarchi has employed glass harmonica, strings, bells, piano,
drums and percussion, creating fragile textures as light as air which tenuously
coexist with the deep, wall-shaking bass tones derived from his guitar.
Ambarchi works with simple constructs and parameters; exploring one idea
over an extended duration and patiently teasing every nuance and implication
from each texture; the phenomena of sum and difference tones; carefully
tended arrangements that unravel gently; unprepossessing melodies that
slowly work their way through various permutations; resulting in an otherworldly,
cumulative impact of patiently unfolding compositions. Ambarchi has performed
and recorded with a diverse array of artists such as Fennesz, Otomo Yoshihide,
Pimmon, Keiji Haino, John Zorn, Rizili, Voice Crack, Jim O’Rourke, Keith Rowe,
Phill Niblock, Dave Grohl, Gunter Muller, Evan Parker, z’ev, Toshimaru Nakamura,
Peter Rehberg, Merzbow and many more. TOUCH

PHAENON  His Masters Voice CD 13 eur
After the well received debut Submerged, Phaenon follows things up with an
even deeper immersion into a world of bleak, isolationist sounds. Whereas
Submerged was one long and infinitely expansive drone piece, His Master’s
Voice is broken up into four separate, but flowing tracks of sprawling and
spacious ambient drift, laced with interstellar disturbances, probing, alien
tones and icy shards of celestial debris…a whirling specter of darkness and
void-ic space, thematically based upon the 1968 novel of the same name
by Stanislaw Lem, which is centered around the efforts by scientists to
decode, translate and understand a series of extraterrestrial transmissions.
As a whole, His Master’s Voice represents a logical progression in Phaenon’s
sound and is the ultimate in headphone listening. In gorgeous 6 panel digipak..

R.Y.N.  Archaic Techniques Of Ecstacy LP 22 eur
“R.Y.N. are a UK-based duo probably best known for their Astral Death CD
(Unrest Productions) and an excellent 7″ on Drone Records. On this vinyl-only
release R.Y.N. present 44 minutes of completely new recordings: a mix of
archaic, unsettling, new and melancholy. This album took many months to
record as a result of the careful attention paid to the record by the duo.
This LP provides both classic R.Y.N. darkness plus even heavier oppressive,
dark, soundscapes that can only be fully appreciated on vinyl over the two
side-long tracks: Archaic Techniques Of Ecstacy and Provisional Sketch Of
The Mind. Pressed on black vinyl in a spot-varnished silk-screened card
sleeve (by Seizure Palace) plus pro-printed inner sleeve and 5 card inserts
(housed in separate stickered inner sleeve). If you don’t know their work
then this is definitely worth exploring. If you do know them then this is a must.

RAISON D’ETRE   Live Archive  3xCD  30 eur
ON THE WAY ‘Live Archive’ comes in a magnificent 6-panel digipak, limited to strictly
499 copies only! Since the early 90s Peter Andersson writes albums that
remain in our memory as masterpieces and that have defined and formed
the term ‘dark ambient’ in its form, as we know it today! This incredible
release, ‘Live Archive’ is the best and most qualitative release by Raison
d’Etre’s famous Live performances and all tracks and recordings have been
carefully selected by Peter Andersson himself and are being made available
for the very first time on CD. ‘Live Archive’ offers far more than three hours
of deepest dark ambient sound in Raison d’Etre’s well known and highly
praised quality. This Triple-CD set features both, already well-known tracks
from the project’s official studio albums in most interesting, very different
live-versions and some exclusive(!) compositions, never heard or released
before!  All this makes this beautiful packaging a monumental edition and
absolutely irresistible for all Raison d’Etre addicts and beyond!  INFINITE FOG

SLEEP RESEARCH FACILITY
Dead Weather Machine CD + Dead Weather Machine: Re – Heat CD 18 eur
Both CDs are normally sold as single CDs. Here together for a good set-price!
Dark exquisite ambient, simply perfect The titanic waves of impenetrable sonics
slowly swing from out  of the far-away darkness like the tentacles of some galaxy-
sized beast, moving through clouds with the power of a silk-covered sledgehammer,
thudding at the other side of the world. Several tracks of slightly differing
technique are just chilling, huge and deep…scary deep. Like the electrically-charged shade
of Lustmord’s ‘Place Where The Black Stars Hang’. Monstrous. Somehow threatening.
The previous SRF record, ‘Nostromo’ (CSR34CD) used the first few seconds of the film
‘Alien’ to create an expansive, chilling work of ambient. Here, the artist was living in a
small flat in the UK with a heating/ac unit that was slowly breaking  down, clogged
with dust, slowly choking on it’s own decay. Dead Weather Machine tells monstrous
tales of things and places and feelings that it’s common beginnings would never seem
to suggest. But then imagine being as small as a piece of dust, trekking through
some enormous, dying mechanical landscape, the sounds of world-sized storms swirling
all around you. A microscopic entity, floating for ages through the channels and
chambers of an enormous, dying machine, a machine that makes the weather for an entire world.
A machine that is slowly dying.

TENHORNEDBEASTS  Hunts & Wars CD 12 eur
TenHornedBeast’s third album for Cold Spring Records is titled “Hunts & Wars”.
Recorded over a three year period from 2006 to 2009 this album introduces subtle
changes to the established TenHornedBeast sound with shorter delicate interludes
separating longer tracksthat rage with heavy distortion and doom-drone barbarism.
“Hunts & Wars” progresses the established TenHornedBeast sound using leaden,
sub-tuned bass guitar to create rhythms and riffs that dominate a battlefield of
vast ritual percussion and droning walls of electric dissonance, creating epic and
expansive textures that by turns burn with frost and freeze with fire.  Heavily
influenced by the oneiric visions of Robert E Howard and Lord Dunsany.
”Hunts & Wars” seeks to evoke the elemental, anti-modern fantasias of these
writers and is presented in a lavish digipak designed by noted American graphic
designer Kevin Yuen (Sunn O))),  Wolves In The Throne Room) to its full
grotesque glory. The days have come when the steel will rule. Titans arise,
monuments fall. Ballads of victory and defeat are sung aloud as from the highest
steps we are swept on to the eternal Hunts and Wars.

TREHA SEKTORI  Sorieh CD 13 eur
Soundtrack of mind’s fluctuations, Treha Sektori exposes a psychic course with
ethereal and nightmarish appearances. The role alloted to the voices gives actually,
a theatrical and horrific inflection with unit but fixed in the abstract. Only tangible
line : a work of layers carrying a true mystery, a cinematic oppression. Beginning
at the end of the test, “Sorieh” gives the impression of living then a fall, slow,
course of limbs, rustles and fogs which more make us fear that, with the end,
one will discover, rather than the shock with some object floating not identified,
mineral or organic. No the shock not. A bottleneck of throllings. Kaosthetik

TROUM  Autopoiesis/Nahtscato CD 12 eur
The picture LP from Small Voices (2004) and a 12inch from Paranoise (2005)
here on a CD. Comes in digipack. ZOHARUM

V.A. With Friends Like These… 2x CD 15 eur
“With Friends Like These” is a double CD compilation by Tursa and Kaparte
Productions  who are jointly responsible for the successful “Ship Of Fools ” club
nights in central London. Oldies like Orchestra Noir, Sieben, Naevus, Tor Lundvall,
Tony Wakeford, Andrew King and Arcana are joined  by a roster of less gnarled
artists from the UK, Europe and beyond. This is a compilation of artists not
constrained by musical label or ghetto: Albireon, Alex Monk, Amber Asylum,
Andrew King, Arcana,  Art Immunda, Autumn Grieve, Brown Sierra, Christy & Emily,
Cutty Sark, Eva Eden, Gargemella, Golgatha,  Gregorio Bardini, Guy Harries,
Heidika, Hekate, Hide & Seek, Hong Kong In The 60s, Human Greed,
Man Eat Man Eat Man, Mercy Liao, Naevus, Orchestra Noir, Pilori, (r), Richard Moult,
Rose Rovine E Amanti, Seventh Harmonic, Shining Vril, Sieben, Sonver,
Susan Matthews, That Summer, The Hare & The Moon, Tony Wakeford,
Tor Lundvall, Vega, Vultures and While Angels Watch.

VON THRONSTAHL  Conscriptvm 2xCD 15 eur
“Cold Spring are proud to announce a double CD of rare, alternative
versions, new and unreleased material from German Martial Industrial
legends Von Thronstahl! The sounds on “Conscriptvm” range from
Orchestral to Industrial, Neofolk to military-pop and Martial rock,
all with the unmistakable, unique sound of Von Thronstahl! This
is definitely a release for fans of the early ‘classic’ Von Thronstahl
sound, which gained them the solid reputation they have today and
could be considered a companion piece to ‘E Pluribus Unum’.
Around 140 minutes of  music presented in a luxurious 6-panel digipak.”

WOLFSKIN  Stonegates of Silence CD  13 eur
ON THE WAY And so the journey formally ends for Wolfskin, 15 years from whence
it began with the release of the Hidden Fortress cassette back in 1995.
The essence of Wolfskin has transformed and mutated throughout
the years, reaching on “The Stonegates of Silence” it’s simpler form….
one of desolation, solitude, insanity and death, the final frontiers of
human existence. As he did with The Hidden Fortress: A Revisitation
CD, Wolfskin once again pairs up with Anders Peterson of Objekt 4
fame, now operating under the name of Last Industrial Estate for the
purposes of this recording. This is Wolfskin at its bleakest and most
restrained, offering 5 tracks of enveloping ambience built around foggy,
ambiguous textures and an endless flow of drifting isolationism,
shapeless horrors, and oppressive subterranean heaviness. In the
case of Stonegates, Wolfskin goes out not with a bang, but with a
slow, evolutionary creep into the shadows, forever etched in the
lexicon of dark ambient music. In 4  panel digipak. MALIGNANT

HOCICO “TIEMPOS DE FURIA – LIMITED BOXSET”
Times of fury… Tiempos de Furia! The album title pretty much sums up the inferno that the Mexican Hard-Electro-pioneers are unleashing on their new CD. The snout has not been sporting such a raw and aggressive bark since the early days: unbridled electronic anger meets lashing beats. Fittingly, Erk Aicrag and Racso Agroyam have driven the production into much rougher and harder sounding terrains than on the previous albums. Music-wise, electronic-slam-dance-riots like the title track and the massive “Bite Me” meet heavy mid tempo onslaughts and excursions to the dark side, making the new long player the most versatile work in the band’s opulent oeuvre. Add to that Hocico’s trademark talent for creating memorable melodies and a highly creative sound design and you get a club-compatible hell ride with addictive qualities. “Tiempos de Furia” will be released as a regular CD album, a limited edition with bonus disc and 3D cover art. Unleash your fury! Released on Out of Line and available October 1st, 2010.  **PLEASE EMAIL US YOUR DESIRED T-SHIRT SIZE: T-SHIRT is available in ‘S’, ‘M’, ‘L’ and ‘XL’. UNDERWORLD “BARKING: SUPER DELUXE”
Super Deluxe version 10”Bookpack with 32 page booklet & 3 discs in rigid outer box!
To celebrate their 30th year together, Underworld return triumphantly withtheir first new album in almost 3 years.‘Barking’ is the duo’s sixth studio album and the first time Karl Hyde and RickSmith have collaborated with other producers. The record enlists the help oftechno producers Mark Knight and D. Ramirez (Always Loved A Film,Between Stars) plus a whole cast of brilliant and like-minded producers fromacross the spectrum of modern dance music to add personal touches to theband’s original material. Enter Welsh drum and bass artist High Contrast(Scribble, Moon In Water), four-time Grammy winner Dubfire (Bird 1, Grace),Bristol based dub step producers Appleblim and Al Tourettes (HamburgHotel) and long term Underworld team member Darren Price (BetweenStars). The question is, with such a glittering cast of extras, how does it actuallysound? From the first undulating pulses of submariner bass, the first vocals – soft likea whisper in the ear – and the first fizz of hi-hats that force along the pace, the sound is unmistakably Underworld. Electronics wrapped effortlessly around songs; streams of consciousness lyrics that form indelible images; aperfectly balanced mix of melody and rhythm. Underworld’s sixth studioalbum is a thundering return to form, although it’s fair to say that the bandresponsible have never really been below par. Like the bomb on the Icarus IIin Sunshine, this new process of working had the effect of not so muchreigniting a creativity within the band as exploding it into myriad newfragments. And through all of this, brilliantly and uniquely, it sounds just like Underworld. Released on Cooking Vinyl and available September 14th, 2010.

PORCUPINE TREE “RECORDINGS”
Last year Porcupine Tree released their latest album The Incident. The album marked another step forward in the incredible journey of the band from a solo studio project created by Steven Wilson in the late eighties to a Grammy nominated act and one of the world’s most revered live bands, currently selling out arenas across the globe and wowing fans with their incredible performances. As the band’s popularity has grown over the years, fans have been eager to explore their back catalogue and earlier pieces have become highly collectable with deleted albums, EPs and promos regularly changing hands on eBay for over a hundred pounds. This reissue of Recordings remains faithful to the original artwork and will provide Porcupine Tree’s new legions of fans with the chance to own this important part of the band’s history. Dead When I Found Her is the studio project of Portland, Oregon’s Michael Arthur Holloway, a professional electronic musician and producer who sites Skinny Puppy, Haujobb, Mentallo & the Fixer, Forma Tadre, Doubting Thomas, amongst other pioneering industrial aritsts as influences. Tracks from the debut album Harm’s Way have been the talk of music forums since they started to appear on Myspace and Soundcloud in 2009, and the attention the project has received is nothing short of impressive. The project soon found a home on Artoffact Records, and 12 tracks were selected for the debut release. Dead When I Found Her re-creates classic late-80’s/early-90’s industrial without sounding cliched, adding a modernized sonic signature to a dark and brooding foundation. Harm’s Way is the perfect album for dark music lovers. Out July 13th, 2010!

Sep 042010

Hello friend of A Different Drum.  I just wanted to send out a quick email to let you know that I’ve starting packaging up the new IRIS “Blacklight” CD for those who have pre-ordered.   A first batch will make it out tomorrow (Saturday).  But most of them won’t ship until Tuesday.  Why?  Well…Monday is Labor Day, a US national holiday.  So, the post office will be closed :-(

Yep, perfect timing.  Once we have something cool to ship out, the post office closes.  But that’s OK.  I just wanted to let you know that it’s in the works.  I’ll send out emails as I package up your CD’s to let you know that they are on the way.

If you want to order the cool new IRIS CD, you can order it here :

http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/DIF016/Iris-Blacklight

If you want to watch a video for one of the songs, check it out here :

ALSO…RECOIL IS TOURING:

I thought I’d pass out a little information about the upcoming RECOIL tour for those who are fans, stemming back to the Depeche Mode days of Alan Wilder.

Check out the promo information for the tour by watching this video :

You can see a list of cities and how to purchase tickets here:
